Book Description

August 1, 2002 P and upPark Pals Adventures
Here is an all-new Park Pals adventure from the author of PeeWee's Tale and Lexi's Tale. When Plush, a female guinea pig, ends up in Central Park, PeeWee thinks he'll have a family soon. But at first, Plush would rather listen to classical music than explore the wild outdoors with him. Then PeeWee finds out that winter will be comingsomething neither of them have ever faced. And for once, PeeWee's best friend, Lexi, who always has something smart to say, doesn't have much advice. Will PeeWee and Plush overcome their differences in time to prepare for the bitter cold?

Full of surprises, and featuring an adorable cast of guinea pig babies, this action-packed tale about building friendship and conquering fear is sure to find a special place in readers' hearts.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

New York City's Central Park guinea pig PeeWee meets his match and his dreams of starting a family come true in PeeWee & Plush, the third installment in the Park Pals Adventure series by Johanna Hurwitz, illus. by Patience Brewster. Ages 7-10.

From School Library Journal

Grade 2-4-An accessible story for beginning chapter-book readers. In this third story about the resourceful guinea pig who lives in Central Park, PeeWee wants a family, and he courts Plush, who has been brought to the park by his human friend to keep him company. He wins her love and trust with his ability to read, and he takes her to the operas in the park. The two guinea pigs are helped by Lexi, PeeWee's squirrel friend and sidekick, from Lexi's Tale (SeaStar, 2001), who has the sometimes annoying habit of reciting proverbs. Meanwhile, they must plan for winter in order to survive. Plush and PeeWee become the responsible parents of Pudge, Perky, Pip, and Squeak. Brewster's comical pencil drawings accompany the charming text. Clever characters and steady adventures will keep children reading to the happy ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweetest story ever, January 18, 2008
This review is from: PeeWee & Plush (Paperback)
It all started from a book my wife bought at a garage sale Lexi's Tale, which is a story about a Squirrel that lives in Central Park in New York City, Lexi the Squirrel (short for Lexington) befriends a Guinea Pig named Pee Wee who is not native to Central Park. This particular book is a continuation of Lexi's tale and is revolved around Pee Wee and his new Mate Plush, this is a wonderful heartfelt story and the author paints a vivid wonderful picture in your mind that you can almost imagine you are living the moments in Central Park as Pee Wee.
The cutest part about this review and book is that it started out as reading the stories to my 5 year old son, but one night my wife joined us for the read and Lily (My Wife) became fully engaged with the story also. It has now become a bed time ritual with my beautiful wife of 19 years, with her curled up in my arms while I read either Lexi's Tale, Pee Wee & Plush or Squirrel World to her and rock her to sleep, (she actually said to me that my voice and reading to her soothes her soul) as it does mine reading to my Angel. Johanna Hurwitz thank you so much for writing these wonderful imaginative stories and hope that one day you will revise the Park Pal Adventure Series. Pee Wee (Brian) & Plush (Lily) 4 Ever See you in the Park....
