Book Description

October 24, 2007
A Peek Into My Soul Redux is poetry in motion. The poems take visual shape, jump off the page, slide in your psyche and jumpstart your imagination - subtly. A snapshot of the human experience, Redux touches on the little things that make life - life, such as politics, love lost and won, family, friendships, spirituality and religion, showcasing life in all it s glory; the good, the bad and the ugly. If you think about it, the word live is evil spelled backwards. We spend so much of our lives trying to overcome the funk that lurks in the shadows, but the answer to succeed mightily is in us. Now if the letters v and e, are added to love spelled backwards, you get evolve. So let us continue to evolve and live through love, by love and for love and embrace life, living to the fullest extent humanly possible, reveling in God s amazing Grace.

4.0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 4.5) - Bringing In Good Rhymes..., November 1, 2009

This review is from: A Peek Into My Soul Redux (Perfect Paperback)
With well over 70 poems, A PEEK INTO MY SOUL REDUX is a weighty collection. The poems are divided into eight categories ranging from Webb's personal insight, to family and love, and even a section with a mixed bag of subjects. The poems are personal and socially conscious. The poetry covers the emotions we all experience in our lives. I enjoyed the compilation, but the one poem that resonated with me was the final one in the collection. "If I Could Go Back", which is an ode to musicians of the past who gave us music to live by, but whose own lives were cut short. This particular poem had me patting my feet to an imaginary beat and swaying my body to an unheard tune, because from the Webb's words I could hear each and every one of the musician's songs in my mind. Being the last piece, it made quite the final impression on me.

A PEEK INTO MY SOUL REDUX is not a collection to read breezily. It is to be savored and read over time. I found Webb's rhyming ability for most of the poetry to be incredible. It is not usual to read poetry, which carries rhyming schemes much anymore, so it was a welcomed experience. The poetic pieces at times could be long, which is also a nuance for many of the collections I have read lately. However, this collection's strength lies in her technique, range of poems and her ability to draw the reader into her personal poems wholeheartedly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go ahead...take a peek!, July 19, 2009
This review is from: A Peek Into My Soul Redux (Perfect Paperback)
Poetry is a form of therapy that sometimes is over looked. In Redux Monda Webb has expertly found a way to not only be poeticly therapeutic but for herself but others as well. This poetry compilation is unique as it takes you through transitions of emotions that are spelled out through free verse.

I enjoyed the many quips of humor that accompanied many of the poems. I found the poetry to be highly relevant and many times socially conscious. Fearless is a great way to describe her technique as she addresses many issues that some are afraid to. For example her poem Karmic Retribution while shorter than a haiku is more powerful than a prose. I also enjoyed Ego Tripping As Well since Nikki Giovanni is my personal favorite poet I thought that this was an admirable tribute to a literary great. My only desire is that there had been more! Great job Monda. I look forward to reading more or your work.

I've only recently become familiar with the poetry and prose of Monda Webb. I wish I had known of her work when it was originally published! A Peek Into My Soul is full of verses that speak of love, life & music, accented with laughter and tears. This is a work that I will carry with me for some time, because I want to grasp all of the beauty and wisdom of her thoughts. I can highly recommend this collection to anyone who loves poetry!
