5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous!!!, October 8, 2000
By
This review is from: Peep Show (Audio CD)
All-in-All I have to say that this is one of the best CD I've ever had. The exquisitely glammy, and playfully tart voice of Johnny Goudie is extremely fitful for this type of music. The songs exceed gorgeousness, and are.. I must admit, sometimes humorous, perhaps a little filthy, but it was more then fitting. With songs like 'Shy' that you can sometimes catch a few notes that sound as if they came from a Cardigan's song with a beautiful melodic twist. And then comes in 'Drag City' which at first may bring a bit of shock, simply because they dare... and get away with the lyrics. But in the end... it pulls you in.. and you just can't help but like it. I would suggest this to anyone with a taste for glammy, lust filled music, with a twinge of naughtiness.

4.0 out of 5 stars Officially A Peep, August 1, 2001

I want to give this album a 5 Star rating, but I'm a bit prudish, and some of the lyrics here are down right sick. Fetishes with dead girls? Yeiks, as beautiful as the song is, "Julia", is just too close to my name. Johnny Goudie is an awesome vocalist, and makes up for it with his cherry on top "When will you be mine". The most beautiful (and normal) song on the album -- Around and 'round he goes, hypnotising you with each phrase. Baby Hello, is definatley the best song on the album. All about phone sex "but with someone you love" says Johnny (of course). My next favourites would be "Sugar Daddy", and "Buy Me". Both excellent!! Conclusion: Take a peep! ... Go on ... You know you want to ;o)

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, July 24, 2000
By
This review is from: Peep Show (Audio CD)
Peep Show, Goudie's debut album is just amazing. My only worry is that it is perhaps too good for their own good. I do hope that the teenypop and jockrock fed generation will open their ears long enough to realise what music is supposed to sound like. Not only is the album a must for all, the rock music with a definite glam rock edge couldn't be coming from a group of nicer guys. And for anyone out there who hasn't heard of Goudie, just keep listening for "Baby Hello" and you too will be hooked. If you have a chance, go catch the Austin quartet live and you won't be dissapointed. I have seen several shows before the album's release and it has made me but a loyal listener to Peep Show while the boys are away. Do yourself a favor and buy Peep Show, for this is in my mind, without a doubt the best album to be released this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars And they're even better live!, July 21, 2000

I first heard the CD on New Year's from one of my friends, and loved it immediately. You can't catch every aspect of their complicated melodies and intruiging lyrics the first time. With all the teenybopper pop that's out there, their sound is a breath of fresh air to alternative and rock lovers. I saw them a couple perform in Houston, and it's the best club experience I've ever had. Not only were they great, but Johnny Goudie signed my CD, and was extremely nice. This is a must have for your CD collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars a unique listening experience, July 18, 2000
This review is from: Peep Show (Audio CD)
Goudie, out of Austin, Texas, are the real thing. They have a truly unique sound that is difficult to describe, but easy to get into. Lyrically speaking, the music offers an interesting view of the dark side of relationships, challenging the listener to identify first with unsavory yet familiar feelings of self-disgust, then offsetting these feelings with a transcendent desire to see the humor and frailty of human connections. This juxtaposition is backed up by quirky instrumentals characterized by a 'wall of sound' created by Messer's pedal-driven guitar work. It's refreshing to hear something new. This isn't yet another alternative guy band. Check them out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing New Sound in Rock, July 11, 2000
By
Kelly Dean Bailey (Minneapolis, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Peep Show (Audio CD)
Goudie makes music that invokes a serious mix of emotions - it has a strong modern rock base, with an edge of retro-alternative thrown in for X-appeal. It is very difficult to compare them to other bands - they have their own highly unique eclectic sound, with Johnny's androgynous vocals and dirty-mind lyrics melded with quirky guitar and vocal distortion. The blend is one that is as exhilarating as it is stimulating. The music draws you in - it doesn't have to grow on you - you become addicted the first time you hear it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent debut, July 11, 2000
By
This review is from: Peep Show (Audio CD)
This is a fantastic debut album from Goudie. I heard the single, "Baby Hello", on my college radio, and I decided to give the album a chance. I was definetly surprised at how good it was. The album certainly has a "glam rock" feel to it, and I urge anyone who has a chance to get their hands on it to immediately do so. I am already a fan.
