This mount was very easy to install.

Without this vertical adjustment, I was unable to obtain a perfectly aligned rectilinear image, even with the lens tilt shift and keystone corrections.

It is most certainly worth that extra money.

In the middle of 2008, I started work building my home theater. A project planned for years, and finally executed. I had the speakers and receiver picked out and the projector is the fantastic Panasonic AE2000. The last part actually ended up being just as awesome in it's own way to the more expensive and high tech gadgetry. I shopped all over every major store, some minor ones, and found this baby on Amazon. It was "reasonable" which was kind of one of my founding principles for budgeting... I'd call it High Medium End gear. The pictures don't do it justice... and I STRONGLY recommend reviewing the video on the manufacturers website.

First off, I had a lot of requirements for this. The one area I didn't want to skimp on was the support for a $2500 projector, but I have a rather low basement ceiling and needed something both sturdy and shallow. It's hard to tell based on the information on the site... they really should give more details. I guess this one looked close to the best if maybe a bit more expensive than some I had seen. I found out, that based on the value of this item, the cost was WELL worth it.

It's rock solid steel, the arms are very adjustable, the tooling is quality, and it's adjustability is fantastic. I wasn't even aware of how easy this would be to adjust, and really that should be an aspect of your mounting solution. This has hide-away knobs that fit into the base, but pull out so you can fine tune the system without needing a long driver. You should also consider having enough room between the projector and ceiling to fit your hand in to release or adjust. The sliding mount is very solid and you don't feel for an instant it's going to give out on you. Everything is gear driven, and can be locked down tight to prevent wiggle.

Like many, I wanted my projector to hang from the ceiling but also wanted to make sure I got it right the first time.
In that regard, I was more than happy to pay a little more for something that was an easy install.

The manual walks you through 4 installation scenarios.
--Installation to Extension Column/Ceiling Plate (Extension Column not included)
--Installation to Wood Joist Ceilings
--Installation to Concrete Ceilings
--Installation to Threaded Rod (Threaded rods not included)

For myself, I was doing the Installation to Wood Joist Ceilings. You definitely want to make sure you're screwing into wood and not just the drywall! But once you do have it mounted to wood, you'll see right away how sturdy this thing is. The front on the book indicates that it has a maximum capacity of 50 lbs.

When you connect the arm assembly to the projector, this kit comes with all the screws and tools you'll need. The moving parts are all adjustable and in very little time I was able to align the arms to the bottom of my Optoma HD20. I used the 3 smallest screws.

After that is done, it's just a matter of sliding the projector assembly into the ceiling assembly (slide it in from front to back).
Tada! I was done!

There are also adjustment dials on the ceiling mount, but in my case, I already had it lined up correctly to start with so didn't have to mess around with those.

Before I bought a ceiling mount for my projector, my biggest fear was that it wouldn't mount securely to the ceiling. Thankfully, this mount is sturdy enough to allay my fears (the wood screws are 2.5 inches long and I have them screwed in all the way), especially since my couch is directly underneath.

Highly recommended!

I used this mount for an NEC NP50 projector and it did the job. I did have to configure the arms in a weird way (the projector was very small) but it worked. It has security screws and very very easy pitch and yaw adjustment. This is comparable to many Cheif Peerless and Premier mounts that cost over $200!

I'm using this mount for a home theater setup in a multi-purpose room in the basement. I like the low profile of this mount because I didn't want the projector to hang too low from the 9 foot ceiling to where it would be an eye sore. Since it is white, it blends well against the white ceiling and with my mostly white Epson 6100UB projector. I was able to easily install the mount on the ceiling using the 2 supplied screws. Attaching the projector to the mount was also easy. It can tilt and roll vertically, but I was able to make some adjustments to the way the projector attaches on to the mount's spider legs to get a little horizontal shift. This combined with the projector's lens shift allowed me to place the mount off center on the available ceiling I-beam. The mount can also rotate and removing the projector from the mount for maintenance is easy.

I have owned three different projector mounts and this Peerless is the best by far. I understand Chief mounts are good too but from what I understand they do not have the ease of adjustment. I am using this mount on my JVC RS40. This is a monster home theater projector and weighs 33lbs. Out of the box this mount works fine. What is interesting is that Peerless customer service said this universal mount will not work. I don't know why they would say that. The mount is rated for a 50lbs projector and the specs indicate the arms with reach all four mounting holes on the JVC - and it does. So what is up with Peerless customer service? I found out this mount works by reading reviews on the AVS web site and confirming the specs. I highly recommend this mount. It is expensive, but the quality and ease of adjustment are worth it/critical IMHO. You need to square the projector with the screen and the adjustment design of this mount make it a breeze. The problem I had with other mounts is that once set, they wouldn't hold, the projector wandered, just slightly... but enough to mess with the picture. The other mounts were a pain attach the projector on, not the Peerless - lifting a $3K, 33 lb projector on a ladder is not fun.

Is this the only part you'll need? Probably not... It was for me as I used parts of my prior ceiling mount and drop down. You can use this mount to attach directly to the ceiling, in that case it is all you need. The drop down tube (pipe) is a standard thread 1 1/2 inch. You can use PVC pipe and it attaches fine, I tried it. No, not as strong as steal but I think it would be fine for 35 to 100lbs? So basically there are three parts to buy in a drop down style, the mount, the drop down tube, and the ceiling bracket that attaches to the drop down tube. I hope this review helps, I highly recommend this mount even though the cost seems high it works great!
