Good, solid mount; could be improved, November 28, 2009
This review is from: Peerless PRS Series Projector Ceiling Mount with Spider Universal Adapter Plat ( PRS UNV-S ) (Electronics)
Once mounted, it's solid enough. And the 4 screws used to fine tune the projector's aim work well. The method for separating the half that's fastened to the ceiling from the half that's fastened to the projector is good, and it's easy to do it w/o messing up the aim of the projector.
I have an Optoma HD20, and the 3 mount-points on it are just within the diameter of the ring that the adjustable legs attach to. I was able to get it mounted OK, but I had to get creative. The mount holds the projector steady, and it hasn't sagged/drifted/moved since I set it a week ago.
The area where the product could be improved is the screws that are used at the various points of adjustment. They used "security" Allen/Hex heads, and it's easy to strip them. Because of the poor choice of driver shape, there are a few screws that are really hard to get tight enough to feel secure---the most problematic ones are those that are used to adjust the metal tabs that attach to the projector and the "legs". All in all, the problem is a combination of the torque required to properly tighten some of the screws coupled with the driver shape that doesn't handle the needed torque very well.
In the end, what drove me to purchase this over less expensive ones is that this is shorter (lower profile). Even with the "creative" mounting, the projector is still just under 4" from the ceiling; the next shortest mount says its minimum distance is 5". Given our 7.5' basement ceiling, every inch counts.
