My husband and I did COPIOUS research for car seats before finally purchasing this one for my car and the Diono Radian RXT for his car. We also looked at the Clek Foonf and Recaro ProRide. We knew we wanted extending rear facing seats so that is how we narrowed our search to just these seats. We also wanted something that was solidly built, so that eliminated many of the cheaper seats.

Here's the run down:

(1) Peg Perego Premium Convertible Car Seat

What we LIKED:
- VERY well built, solid seat!
- RF to 45lbs, FF to 70lbs or 49" (though your child will likely outgrow this seat in height before weight . . . the average 6 year old is 49")
- Easy clean fabric (fresco jersey)
- SUPER SAFE shock absorbing foam that crumples upon impact (though I hope we never test this!)
- SUPER QUICK AND EASY to install!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't underscore this enough! For RF, I just stand behind the seat, leaning into it, click the two latch straps into place, then rock side to side while cinching the straps tight. With this method it DOES NOT WOBBLE AT ALL! I did have to insert a small towel under the base to get the right recline angle, but the leveling line provided on the side of the seat makes it SUPER EASY! I have not installed it FF yet, but that should be even easier!
- SUPER LIGHT so combined with ease of install, I can move it from one car to another in about 2 minutes!!!
- Our kid is high up so he can see out the windows and he likes that.
- Seat comes with nice extra padding for smaller babies (under 22lbs) so we felt safe using it with our little guy (we did, however use an infant carrier seat from 7-18lbs, up to 30").
- The head rest part is the BEST on any seat we looked at!!!

I hardly write reviews, maybe once before, but I just had to write this one because it was a tough and long ordeal until I found the right convertible car seat for my daughter. I ordered four convertible car seats before I chose the right one. I wish someone had made it as easy as I'm about to make it for you. This is out of pure empathy for all other parents out there searching for the right seat. This is the absolute best convertible car seat and here are the reasons why (btw, my infant is 32inches long and 19lbs:

1. My daughter is very secure and safe in it, the seat does not move around at all and she is completely secure when fastened in
2. Her head NEVER hangs! Big issue with almost every convertable (How do people let their poor baby's heads hang?)
3. She falls asleep in it everytime and never once cried while being in it
4 At 32 inches she still faces backwards
5. Not big and bulky, but made of quality and is very sturdy...MADE IN ITALY not CHINA!!
6. Fabric is quality and thickly cushioned = VERY comfortable
7. Stylish and affordable, yes more expensive then some but very much worth it
8. SIP, protects her but does not block her view to the outside world.
9. Easy to clean! just wipe

Overall my baby is Happy, safe and comfortable in this car seat and you will not be dissapointed.

The previous seats tried and returned (thank God for Amazon!) were:

Maxi Cosi Pria 70

Huge, bulky made in China! My child was absolutely uncomfortable and overwhelmed by the huge wings around her head (SIP). I'm sure she felt closteraphobic because she cried as soon and we buckled her in. I don't know how it was a top mothers choice in so many magazines. I returned it right away.

My wife and I drive a '09 Toyota corolla and we have been trying to find a seat that fit well. Our son still needs to be rear facing so we wanted a car seat that didn't take up too much room. We first bought the Graco my ride 65, this fit in our back seat rear facing but it was not comfortable for our son and was very difficult to install. We then were interested in the Britax marathon 70, we tried it at a local store to see how it fit in our car. It fit really well but we then did more research and found that it was one of the more toxic seats. We also tried the Maxi Cosi 70 it seems nice but was much too big to fit in our car.

We then ordered this car seat, we didn't have too much to go off of but the reviews were so good we thought we would give it a try. Right when we opened the box we knew this car seat was going to be great.

-Easy to install, probably one of the easiest I've installed
-Fabric is nice and not hot
-easy to adjust seat to fit my son
-engineered well, everything seems to be in the right place
-Very long straps

-Strap pads are a little big and stiff (we are going to get after market ones that will fit better)
-with the large strap pads it's hard to tell if the straps are tight enough.
-doesn't have a cup holder

This car seat is everything we hoped for. I did extensive reading of reviews on what felt like half a million sources before deciding to buy this particular car seat. I also went and checked out the Britax Pavilion and the Chicco Nextfit, the other seats on our shortlist. FYI we had a Chicco Keyfit 30 as our infant seat and loved it. Here's the most salient information: we, as U.S. consumers, are not told what rating any of the car seats that pass national standards actually received in the crash tests. All we know is that all car seats available for purchase in the U.S. passed. So this whole "safest" thing (I read numerous discussions of Britax being the "safest") is BS. They are all safe, to a point. What matters is proper installation and proper buckling of your kid into the seat.

This seat is relatively light compared to some others and extremely easy to install via the LATCH system or a seat belt (rear-facing; our daughter is 14 months old). I am completely confused by comments that suggest this (or any) car seat is "difficult" to install via LATCH. LATCH generally is ridiculously simple, and totally intuitive. This one worked like a charm. The lightness comes into play when you start traveling with it, or switching it between cars. The Peg Perego is also relatively small for a standard convertible car seat, especially when viewed next to the Nextfit, which is and looks enormous. Even then, the passenger seat in our relatively large station wagon is fairly far forward. You can sit just fine, but someone who's 6'4" wouldn't enjoy it. In spite of its relative size (average, not huge), it has a 45-lb rear-facing weight limit, which is 5 lbs over the Nextfit and others.
