3.0 out of 5 stars BIG Disappointment!!
We bought this for our son's 4th birthday. He is big into construction equipment and we were so excited to get this for him. He cannot pedal it around our yard. He gets so mad at it. The only way this toy gets used is if someone is willing to push him around on it. If you have a paved area for you child to use it, it would be fine, but we do not. Also, it's...

5.0 out of 5 stars John Deere Loader, December 28, 2008

We bought this tractor for our 3 year old daughter for Christmas. She has been obsessed with tractors since she was a baby, and this one looks just like Great-Grandpa's tractor that she rides on when we visit. Our daughter (and our 19 month old son) love it! Our daughter is easily able to work the pedals and dumper. Our son is happy just to climb on and sit in the seat. The tractor seems very sturdy and high quality, so I'm sure we will get many years of use out of it.

On the negative side, as others have said, the assembly instructions are poorly written and portions of the assembly are difficult. I would advise putting on most of the decals BEFORE assembling the tractor. The steering wheel is difficult to attach to the steering column because the column falls into the body of the tractor when you push the wheel on. After 20 minutes, when we finally got the steering wheel attached, we discovered that the dashboard decal must be put on BEFORE the steering wheel. Another hint for getting the steering wheel on (since we had to do it twice), is to grease the column with a little bit of vegetable oil to make the wheel easier to slide on. Our other struggle in getting the tractor together was attaching the bucket to the tractor. It takes two people to compact the tractor enough to be able to put the retainer on the end of the rod. Also, the instructions don't mention it until a later step, but there is a special tool included with the tractor that is designed for putting the retainers on. We didn't realize this for the first retainer, but it made putting the second one on much easier.

All in all, even with the difficult assembly, this toy is really worth the money. Be sure to leave time for assembly - it took us over two hours - and be sure to bring your patience. When you are done, you will have a great looking, high quality toy that will keep the kids entertained for years.

I bought this tractor for my grandson's 4th birthday and he just loves it! I was so pleased to see that he really can pedal on grass and dirt as they said. Those large tires in the back make it possible. He loves to collect leaves and dump them at another part of the yard. I would not recommend this for a child who is small for his age. My grandson is tall and can just reach the handle to work the bucket.

This was a gift for my son's 2nd birthday. He's an avid John Deere fan and was extremely ecstatic. I had a pedal tractor when I was a kid so I thought he'd love it as much as I loved mine. First, let me say that my tractor was MEDAL - so if you are looking for the quality of the good ole' days, look elsewhere. Granted this is made of the same plastic as a "Power Wheels" but it just isn't the same as the old medal ones. That said my son LOVES this tractor - LOVES IT! He plays for hours on end, loves the front loader - he'd play with it all day long. So, taking that into consideration, I must rate this toy a 4 or 5 - it is worth every penny. Who cares if it's not medal? He certainly doesn't. *Warning, the assembly instructions are PATHETIC - seriously pathetic. The instructions are very POORLY written - there is no parts list and the picture diagrams just make it harder. Make sure to have the box in front of you for a picture reference. Otherwise, if you have the choice of letting the toy store put it together for you - pay the extra money because your time is worth it! Don't worry, even though it's cumbersome to put together the end result is worth it.

Also, it's recommended for kids ages 2-6. My husband had to drill out another hole to put the seat back far enough for my son to fit it. His friends who are ages 4-5 cannot use it at all because they are too big. And one more thing...good luck finding the trailer to go with it. We bought one with it that was suggested by amazon. It was metal and very heavy, but the tractor is plastic. We tried to exchange it for the one we keep seeing in pictures all over the internet, but were not able to get it. If we could do over we'd get the power wheels version.

5.0 out of 5 stars not just a grandma toy, April 29, 2008
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

We bought this for our 2 year old grandson. He's really impressed with the real thing (Grandpa's big John Deere) so we were happy that this toy has a very realistic appearance. He was thrilled and had to fight his 5 year old sister for driving rights. He's not quite mastered the pedals, but he is already in love with it. On the negative side, the assembly instructions were pathetic. My farmer husband and I (collision repair center manager) took 2.5 hours to assemble the toy. Maybe ours was a little 'off', but even if the parts had assembled easily, which they didn't, we would have had to backtrack to get the decals on properly. Then, after it was together, the grandson found out by accident how to lower the bucket. I highly recommend this toy, but allow plenty of time to assemble and have your common sense turned on.

I purchased this John Deere front loader for my 3 year old grandson. It was one of the best investments. He loved it. The look on his face when we gave it to him was just priceless. We purchased the trailer that dumps to go with it and had a load of dirt delivered to my son's house. My grandson had a great time, filling the trailer up with dirt then taking it out back and dumping it to fill the holes. Then coming back and playing on the dirt pile, then going back to filling the trailer. My grandson and I had the best time.

I got this for our grandson who is 3 years old and he just loves it. I was very happy with the solid construction and the chain drive.
The colors are vibrant and with the decals it looks like the real deal.
Shipment was prompt and overall a good experience.

We got this tractor for our son when he was three. Unfortunately, he was too short to pedal and use the dumper at the same time, he just couldn't reach. He got so frustrated when he would try to reach for the dumper handle. The seat is adjustable, but only two different positions. The left pedal broke completely off within a month, and it took three months to get one in the mail (of course they are special types, so you can't just run down to the hardware store to buy a new one). They just kept us waiting! Meanwhile, my son had the entire summer tractorless. After the pedal was replaced, the dump basket came off. We gave up on reordering a new one, and he rode it without the dumper. He rode this tractor until he was six, by sitting on the backrest with his rearend overhanging the tractor. He was too tall for it then, but wouldn't give it up. We finally sold it in a garage sale, and got a good price for it, even after all those years, and still without the dumper part. My son still remembers riding this tractor, and we have lots of cute pictures of him on it. If the parts weren't so hard to get in the mail, I would really recommend this to all smaller boys, but until they start mailing things on a timely manner, it's extremely frustrating! This tractor has a chain drive inside the casing, so you can't see the chain itself unless you take off the bottom of the tractor. Also, you have to take off the bottom of the tractor in order to adjust the seat position too. Fun for all kids, even girls!

1.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but not durable, December 21, 2011

My 3 year old son received this for a gift from grandparents. As far as the fun value, its a blast. Assembly was incredibly difficult, however, and it has not proved to be very durable. The steering mechanism was the first to go. Then the pedaling mechanism went. 95% of the product is flimsy plastic - not as durable even as Little Tykes or Step2. For the price and the name, I would expect better quality. Any time you're making a riding toy for boys, screwing into plastic is not going to be a very durable option.
