A Dirty Chair,
By
This review is from: Peg-Perego Prima Pappa Best High Chair, Paloma (Baby Product)
We originally purchased a Peg-Perego chair for our first grandchild. Yes, the chair holds the child. Yes, it rolls around. But from a cleaning perspective it is a total failure. There are too many crevices, cracks, corners, folds, etc. to be able to clean the chair. It will accumulate food and stuff that you will not be able to routinely clean. If you want your child to spend its first years sitting in bacteria from old food this is the chair to get, if not you would be better off looking for one that is more cleanable.

DO NOT BUY THIS HIGH CHAIR,
This review is from: Peg-Perego Prima Pappa Best High Chair, Paloma (Baby Product)
Under no circumstances should anyone purchase this high chair. I have two of them at home, for my twins. They are IMPOSSIBLE to clean. Food collects in all nooks and crannies of every square inch of the chair. You cannot get the food out or clean the high chairs thoroughly. We have to wheel them out to our back yard and hose them down to try to get them clean. You have to take the seat cushion off the chair every single time your child eats in the chair (which is three times a day for two babies in my case) to clean the seat down in the sink with warm soap and water and a sponge (with the scrub side also) because everything sticks to the "leatherette" and the entire seat cushion is a system of folds and piping and more nooks and crannies for food to be hiding. EVENTUALLY, the "leatherette" coating of the seat cushion peels off and then the most disgusting nuisance begins, water gets in to the actual pulp of the seat cushions and begins to create black mildew from moisture when your children are eating or when you are cleaning the seat covers three times a day. THE WORST PURCHASE OF ALL THE THINGS I HAVE BOUGHT AND USED FOR MY TWINS. And to top it all off, Peg Perego refuses to replace the seat covers. Customer Service rep suggested that I was leaving food in the seats and letting the food mold and that was the issue. Got nowhere on the phone with them besides them offering to sell me new seat cushions at 1/2 price. The same leatherette ones that fell apart and mildewed. No thank you! Finally just ordered some vinyl replacement covers on line which will cost me approx $120. These high chairs were approximately $300 a piece!!!!! DO NOT BUY THEM. KEEP LOOKING. THEY WILL BE YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE WHEN YOU ARE BUSY WITH YOUR BABIES AND HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO THEN MICROMANAGE THE BACTERIA GROWING ON THEM AND THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF KEEPING THEM CLEAN OR DIGGING THE FOOD OUT OF THE IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH FOLDS AND CAVERNS.

A Well-Made, Poor Design,
By Aerith (Bay Area, CA) - See all my reviews

After my friend absolutely raved about this chair (and because admittedly I'm a brand snob), I bought this chair for my third child without doing any real comparison. Big mistake. Like other reviewers said, the gap between the tray and the baby's belly is HUGE. At least half the food falls into the seat. The tray is huge and does not fit into the dishwasher. It is ridiculously hard to clean---a flaw I think all these type of high chairs share. There are places in this chair where I can see food piling up---and there is absolutely no way to clean it without literally taking the chair apart (gap is too deep and small even for my vaccuum cleaner attachments). I had a $50 Evenflow high chair with my first two children that had all the features I do like about this one: wheels, easy fold, good recline, adjustable height, and extra tray top. Like all these traditional high chair designs, it is huge and takes up a ton of space. This one is very heavy, and probably is well built (Peg-Perego is a great company), but if you're going to spend this kind of money, I would suggest springing for a more innovative high chair, like the Stokke Tripp Trapp. Otherwise, just get the cheapest high chair you can find. This one is not worth the money.

Nice chair,

You may have problems with the 5-point harness. Since the shoulder straps are loose on the tightest adjustment on my above average (height wise) 18 month old child - it may as well be a lap belt only. That being said, with the harness connected, she is not able to free herself from the seat completely - so her struggling to get her arms out of the shoulder straps gives me enough time to realize what she is doing and replace them even though I know she cannot free herself from the lap belt.Even though there are lots of crevices on the seat and tray, I haven't had any problems keeping this chair clean (easily) with a vaccum cleaner and clorox wipes. The wheels do not roll easily on carpet and the brakes are a pain (just like they are on strollers) - but I hardly ever see a need to use the brakes. I've used this chair for my daughter from 6mo on, my 2.5 yr old niece, my 3 yr old nephew, and my 3 year old (38lb) niece who is the size of a 5 year old. It is hard to say how old the chair will last - but I feel that I will continue using the chair for years to come. I think this high chair may be slightly over-priced (at least at the price I paid) but it seems to have come down in price since it was first released - so the current price seems reasonable compared to other models. I've had my chair for 13 months and the only sign of wear are a couple stains from popsicles on the straps only - the seat cover seems to be pretty good at resisting stain. I did just notice today that the seat cover is starting to have a small peel at the seam along the top of the seat. However, my sister-in-law has a Chicco high chair whose seat consisted of mostly duct tape by this time in it's life cycle - and will likely find it's way to the trash once she decides to do a booster seat or regular chair. I think this chair will at least carry me through a second child and maybe a third if the wearing at the seam doesn't become an all over problem. I will say that I had serious problems when ordering from [...] so avoid them like the plague. Also, since [...] blamed Peg Perego for all the problems they may be suspect, too.

I have his chair, as well as the Inglesina Zuma. The Zuma is uncomfortable for my baby (4 months). The Zuma is not big especially to the width, and it seems he will out grow it by a year. the Peg Perego is big and he enjoys to sit in it more- more padding, wide, so he can move around a little, etc. the only thing I am neutral on is the leather seat. It is easy to clean, however he sweats when he is in it. I put a cloth where his head goes, and that works.

Love this High Chair,

This is not your mother's high chair. The faux leather plastic wipes down quick. The tray has a "topper" you can quickly pop off for a clean eating surface - very handy when toddlers are learning to feed themselves. The top tray is even dishwasher safe. The height of the chair can be easily adjusted so the tray can rest above the dining table, or the chair can be lowered and tray removed so baby can eat at the actual table. The seat easily reclines - great for transitioning from eating baby foods to self-feeding with a bottle. Lastly, the whole chair folds down for easy transport - fit in the back of a small SUV with other luggage without a problem.[...]

Very hard to clean,
This review is from: Peg-Perego Prima Pappa Best High Chair, Paloma (Baby Product)
I got a prima pappa as a gift for my daughter. I hated it. It was sooooo hard to clean. There are alot of cracks and crevices which always got dirt into them. I would never buy this again. The only thing that I liked about this highchair is that the trays are big and there are 2 of them.

Poor quality and bad warrenty,
I bought this chair 3 months ago for when my son first needed a high chair. I really liked the sleek look of the chair and the ability to recline the seat if needed. However, after 2 days of owning the chair we collapsed the chair according the the instructions and the plastic covering for where the legs come together broke off. I could not tell if it was broken but I was never able to reattach it. At that time I wasn't too worried but when the armrest broke, I become concerned. The broken arm rest could easily pinch my son's fingers and I have no idea how it had become loose. Like the first issue, I could not see how of if the pieces were broken or how it could be fixed.I called the Peg Perego company since the chair is under warranty but they were extremely unhelpful. They offered to send me new versions of the broken pieces but were unwilling to explain or provide instructions on how to fix the chair with the new pieces. When I asked if it might be a problem with the design of the chair itself, they stated there was nothing they could do since the chair itself is not under warranty only the materials. I would not recommend buying this chair and will reconsider ever purchasing a Peg Perego item in the future. |
