4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Car Seat
It's fascinating to read how opinions on the Primo Viaggio vary in these reviews. 1.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous not practical.
I purchased this for my daughter to use with our bugaboo because it seemed to be the best. I regret it and can't wait to get rid of it. She is noticeably uncomfortable whenever she is in it, it is ridiculously heavy (My wife never carries it) and the straps always always twist. Trying to set this up with a fussy baby is not easy. It has become a hassle taking our daughter...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Car Seat, December 10, 2010
This review is from: Peg-Perego 2011 Primo Viaggio Infant Car Seat, Paloma (Baby Product)
It's fascinating to read how opinions on the Primo Viaggio vary in these reviews. In fact, it took the review about the expletives flying to remind me that the first few times we used it I also felt a lot less positive about the car seat than I do now (9 months worth of frequent use). The way I see it:

* It is fairly heavy, but then that also contributes to it feeling sturdy.
* It fits perfectly in all the cars we have tried it in.
* Our daughter loves it (she is a pleasure to transport in this, whereas the two other seats we have tried she has cried almost constantly)
* I do remember battling with clipping the belt around the back of the seat (when rear facing)... now it seems to just happen automatically and the expletives are a distant memory!
* The build quality is solid. We have not encountered any problems with the clips or anything else.
* The other two seats that we have tried (in rentals) have been uncomfortable and, to me anyway, felt anything but safe and secure. In the one case I actually asked to see the installation instructions because I was convinced the rental agency had it installed wrong ... they did not (all future travel will be made with our Primo Viaggio).

We are happy with the Primo Viaggio and would definitely recommend it. I think the diverse views expressed here show the value in going and trying out as many car seats for yourself as you can before you buy. If you do that this one would certainly be on my "try it" list.

5.0 out of 5 stars haven't used it yet but a comment on the weight..., January 9, 2012

This review is from: Peg-Perego 2011 Primo Viaggio Infant Car Seat, Paloma (Baby Product)
I am currently pregnant and recently purchased this car seat. I obviously have not had a chance to use the car seat yet but I did want to make a comment on the weight since so many reviewers have brought this up. I am small so weight was a concern for me and I almost did not buy this car seat because some reviewers are saying this weighs 22 lbs. This is NOT entirely correct. The seat INCLUDING the base weighs 22 lbs. The seat alone (the part you would be carrying) only weighs 11 lbs. I walked Babies R Us yesterday and most infant car seats were around 9 lbs (the lightest two were 7.5 and 8 lbs and looked like they were considerably less sturdy). So, yes this is heavier but only by approx 2 lbs.

Can't really comment on much else at this point other than the look and feel. I was looking for something a bit more attractive than the usual baby prints and I think this seat looks great (we bought the green). It feels very solid and is easy to remove from the base and stroller.

I'll update this once we've had a chance to try it out with our little one :)

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Peg-Perego 2011 Primo Viaggio Infant Car Seat, Paloma (Baby Product)
I am surprised to read some of these reviews. Of course, I may have different priorities when it comes to car seats than others. I LIKE that this car seat is heavier than others on the market. It is one of the reasons we selected it. I didn't purchase this seat as a convenient infant carrier (I have a baby carrier for that) - I want a solid car seat that will cushion my child from the force of an accident. Plus, it's not THAT heavy.

When properly installed, this car seat does not move more than a slight wiggle - no where close to an inch. Even at the top of the base (the loose end). The base almost hugs the seat in our car, so I feel much better about being rear-ended, as the seat would not lift very far. The seat is solid. The straps and SIP adjust very easily. The base was incredibly easy to install (we're using the LATCH system). I really like the knob that will raise/lower the base to the proper angle. It is easy to turn.

The only drawback is that the release on the back of the seat requires a very hard squeeze to remove the seat from the base or from the Peg Perego stroller we purchased. But again, I don't want it to be "easy" to detach the car seat from the base. That's the whole point of a car seat - to keep my baby in one place should the worst happen.

She is noticeably uncomfortable whenever she is in it, it is ridiculously heavy (My wife never carries it) and the straps always always twist. Trying to set this up with a fussy baby is not easy. It has become a hassle taking our daughter out, we have to wait for her to be sleepy so we can strap her in. For the almost $300 I paid for this, I really think it was a let down. Also, peg perego customer service is a joke. I wont even begin on this topic. We are looking at convertible seats on amazon today.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing carseat. Not recommended to purchase., November 27, 2010

This review is from: Peg-Perego 2011 Primo Viaggio Infant Car Seat, Paloma (Baby Product)
I do not recommend purchasing this car seat. I purchased it to snap into my Peg Perego pliko (which I love) but all it has caused me is daily frustration. It is so heavy, I cannot use it as a travel system. The seat belt is difficult to maneuver and adjust. Save your money and purchase a car seat that is easier to use. I've had enough and am switching over to a convertible carseat (Britax) before baby even turns one.

Cons:
* Straps constantly get twisted and are difficult to fix
* Straps get stuck and cannot make tighter with adjustment
* Seatbelt is a 3-piece puzzle!!, which is difficult to put together (cloth piece often gets in the way of closing seat belt)
* Cannot get rid of oversized cloth piece to make seatbelt easier to snap in, or baby may get skin pinched.
* It is very heavy!

Pros:
* Snaps into peg perego stroller.
* Nice looking

5.0 out of 5 stars Great seat!, June 1, 2010
I'm very surprised that so many reviewers complain about how heavy this seat is.I'm 5'2,very slim women, never worked out or been to the gym in the past 15 years-and I can carry it.Yes,this is not a loaf of bread, but very well made safe product.Any car seat with the growing baby in it will be heavy. When it comes to buying a Cadillac or Kia and talking about our child's safety,I'd spend an extra few $$ to buy a Cadillac.

3.0 out of 5 stars Love a lot about it, but it's only OK., September 14, 2010
This review is from: Peg-Perego 2011 Primo Viaggio Infant Car Seat, Paloma (Baby Product)
First, I love a lot about this seat. It is made of wonderful material that is breathable and every single piece of it comes apart so that you can wash it, which is a huge plus when you have a little one with reflux. However, overall the seat is only okay and possibly dangerous.

The latch that secures the shoulder strap in front of the child's chest is flimsy. It is a regular latch like you might find on a dog collar or closing a backpack, which would be fine if it was made of really hard plastic and gave a nice, loud "click" when it was properly engaged, but it isn't and it doesn't. It latches together with only a faint "click" sound and after months of use that sound went away. I took it off to clean it thinking it must be clogged with milk and when I was holding it in my hands I realized that if I pulled really hard the latch came undone! I called Peg Perego to get a new one and that one did the same thing so I have stopped using the seat. I am not a super strong woman, and I would think that me pulling in either direction on the latch should not be enough force to separate it. If it can be that easily separated by hand, how would it perform in an accident?

4.0 out of 5 stars love it now that i've gotten used to it!, May 16, 2011
By
ND Lawyer (South Bend, IN) - See all my reviews
I had been searching everywhere for a car seat-- I absolutely HATED the cheap flimsy plastic ones that seem to be everywhere, and I fell in love with Peg because of the sleek design and great safety ratings. However, I was so anxious about this car seat after reading the negative reviews that we went to the Peg Perego outlet in Ft. Wayne, IN to see the item for ourselves before committing. We loved it! When we got the new items home, we could not figure out how to latch and unlatch the car seat, or how to attach it to the pliko switch stroller we bought. The instructions were poor, had no words (only pictures), and we were so frustrated. I was ready to take everything back and call it quits. However, once we played around with the seat a bit (this took a few hours and a lot of patience) and figured out how to latch/unlatch/adjust it, we realized how simple and easy the whole thing is! And as a plus, it fits so nicely with the pliko switch stroller (which we LOVE). I adore that this car seat fits up to 30lbs, as pretty much every other seat I found only went to 22lbs. The seat is heavier than other car seats, but it isn't cheap graco-quality plastic and actually feels like it has some durability to it. I have pathetic upper body strength and even I can carry it around without much of a problem. In any case, the seat isn't anywhere near heavy enough to warrant the serious doubts I had based on many of the reviews here. The product gets a 5 for quality and style, and a 3 for ease of instruction, which average to a 4. Also, if you live close to the outlet it is definitely worth a visit--- their prices are much lower and they offer the 2011 models plus have a good return policy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Safe, High Quality Car Seat We Love!, April 12, 2011
By
Shanody (CA United States) - See all my reviews
This is the only infant car seat we have used, but absolutely love it. It feels like it's well made and our baby looks safe in it. We have the Tropical (Orange/Brown) color and bought it in 2010. The color has since been discontinued which is too bad as the color combo is wonderful. We live in the California desert where the temperatures are hot and have not had an issue with the dark color being too hot for baby...as long as air in car is on, he does fine. Outside, yes he does tend to sweat in it, but not sure if that's from ventilation issues, color, or whether he would sweat in any car seat just because of the warm temps.

What we love:
-Vibrant color scheme
-Ease of installation in the car and use
-Works extremely well with our UppaBaby Vista Stroller - With adapter, easily clicks in place.
-Baby is happy in it (We use in car, to maneuver around town, in restaurant high chairs, and shopping carts)...he easily falls asleep in it and seems content.
-I can quickly and easily snap baby into the 5 point harness and tighten or loosen.
-Helpful user's manual

What could be better:
-As others have said, yes, it can be heavy and awkward when carrying around. But so far I have managed just fine.
-Takes two hands to move the handle into the different positions

We are quite pleased with this car seat and hope to use with baby #2 when that time comes. Also looking forward to the May 2011 release of Peg Perego's new convertible seat. We highly recommend this seat, but it is a personal preference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this car seat!, March 15, 2011
This review is from: Peg-Perego 2011 Primo Viaggio Infant Car Seat, Paloma (Baby Product)
Really i have no idea what all these other people are talking about! I have gone above and beyond trying to find the safest and best brands of car seats that also will last for a while. This car seat came highly recommended from other mother and got TOP PICK for crash tests! HELLO must i say any more?

a little about the seat. the lock in base that is normally plastic on most car seats is metal meaning its very unlikely for this seat to fail in the even of an accident. It is true that the seat itself weighs a little more than most but its bc this seat is made better. It also has a one hand release button on the back that releases it from the base. Now this is my first child going into the car seat so i dont have to much to compare it to myself but my mother in law, sister in law and other moms that have used many other kinds and brands all say that they would pick mine if they could do it again. I dont know about the rest of you but my child is worth the extra weight if i know she's going to be safe!
