2.0 out of 5 stars Plastic, plastic, and more plastic, February 24, 2011
This review is from: Peg-Perego 2011 Tatamia High Chair, White Latte (Baby Product)
I can see why there are so many good reviews on this high chair. The design looks great, the seat covering is easy to clean, the base folds up, and it can be used as a swing for infants. I felt this was a great purchase too when we first brought it home. 6 months later, my opinion on this chair has changed quite a bit.

The first thing I noticed right out of the box was that the entire thing is made of plastic. The only metal parts on this chair are the screws and a few internal cables and rods. As long as the plastic is sturdy enough, it should be fine however, there are a few stress points on the chair that I feel should have used a different material or at least a stronger piece of plastic. After 6 months of use, I've noticed that the tray is beginning to sag noticeably from its own weight. Any round object will roll to the far end of the tray. For a $300 chair, one would expect the use of better materials.

The base is folded up by lifting a plastic lever on each side of the chair. About 3 months after purchase, the cable that is attached to one of levers popped off. We rarely folded up the base so I figured it wasn't a major problem since at least the side that we push against the wall still worked. Then about 5 months after the purchase, the other side popped off. Now both sides of the base cannot be folded up. As hard as I tried, the cables could not be reattached. I also noticed that the lever on the back of the chair that allows you to recline the seat is very hard to pull. It feels like the plastic lever is bending and ready to snap from the tension of the cable. Unless the lever is pulled all the way, the seat will not recline.

I would not recommend using the swing feature to anyone unless your baby is very young and cannot move their arms around. My baby was just beginning to learn how to move his arms to touch things by the time we purchased this chair. He was still well within the recommended weight limit for the swing so we gave it a try. As he was swinging, he tried touching one of the arms that was attached to the seat and got his fingers pinched. The arms that are attached to the chair crosses very closely to the arms that are attached to the base. As the chair swings, there is a very strong possibility that a child will get their fingers pinched or even seriously crushed between the two arms. The clearance between the two arms as they cross is very small. Its almost like a scissor action with two arms crossing back and forth well within reach of the child. Needless to say, we never used the swing after the first try.

I finally called the Peg-Perego customer service line regarding the broken levers and was told they would be sending me replacement arms for the chair but I would have to dissemble the chair myself to replace them. There are no repair locations in my area so I have no choice. They also informed me that they would have to get back to me on the total shipping and handling charge for the replacement parts. Yes, they even charge you for handling. I can't wait to find out how much this warranty fix is going to cost me.

UPDATE
Its been a week and I still haven't heard back from the Peg-Perego customer service dept on the shipping & handling charge for the replacement parts. Just this morning, the plastic cover on the piece that the t-bar attaches to fell off while we were placing our baby in the chair. We were not using the t-bar and rarely do. It took me several minutes to find the small metal spring that was underneath the button on the cover. The small metal spring is a choking hazard and had my wife not noticed the cover falling off, our baby could have found it before us. I just emailed them again to follow up on the first call and to report this new issue.

2ND UPDATE
After another email and a follow up call, I spoke their customer service and was told the shipping and handling would be $30. I asked if the arms would come with instructions on how to disassemble and reassemble the chair and was told that the instructions that came with the chair should show me how. After I hung up, I looked through the manual and could not find any instructions on this. I guess I will have to see if I can figure it out on my own when the parts arrive.

3RD UPDATE
I received the replacement part about a week and a half after they charged my credit card. They ended up sending the entire base and arms so no major disassembling was required. The seat and wheels were easily removed from the old chair and attached to the new base. The customer service rep said the part they were sending would also address the other two issues of the sagging tray and the t-bar base cover falling off but it does not. The slots that the tray is inserted into and the t-bar base cover are totally separate from the base they sent to me. I decided to just live with the sagging tray and wrapped the cover back on with strong tape after removing the button and spring.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Found What I Was Looking For..., September 4, 2009
I had a very difficult time finding the "perfect" highchair (which I've decided doesn't exist), but this comes pretty close. I had been watching the reviews and reading about this chair long before it came out, and since I didn't think it would be released in time to use with my youngest, I went ahead and bought the Chicco Polly highchair. I hate it. I know most people love it, but I hate it for many reasons - the main one being because the T-bar is attached to the tray. So, we bought the less expensive and more cute-sy Fisher-Price Rainforest highchair. Definite cute, nice toy, but flimsy, cheap, and bad fabric. So, my search continued. I ran across this highchair online and realized that it would, in fact, be released right around when I would need it. I pre-ordered it, and finally received in on Tuesday. Right out of the box, I was impressed! What I like about it: (1) the seat material is very soft, leather-like, and easy to clean, (2) I was able to make all adjustments without ever opening the manual (all levels and buttons are red), (3) the t-bar is attached to the seat (although there is a protrusion on the bottom of the tray so it doesn't sit flat on a counter), (4) the snap-on tray top covers the entire top of the tray, with no exposed edges or gaps to get food under, (5) it makes a great swing/recliner, (6) it folds easily and compactly, (7) the seat and footrest recline together, (8) it's just plain cool looking! What I don't like: (1) the swinging radius isn't very big - it's more of a rock than a swing, (2) the tray, when pushed as far towards the child as possible, still leaves a couple inches where food can fall onto baby, and (3) there is a protrusion on the underside of the tray that prevents it from laying flat on a table. For the functionality and coolness factor, I can live with the three things I dislike, and I still think it's a 5-star highchair/baby swing(rocker)/recliner. My son loves it and seems very comfortable in it and 5 months and 16 lbs, and that's what really matters. I think I'm going to splurge and buy the 2009 Tatamia Accessory Pack in Orange, but all I really want is the toy bar - I don't "need" the soft cover or sunshade. All in all, I highly recommend. I'll post more pictures once my camera battery is charged...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not sturdy at all, July 20, 2011
This review is from: Peg-Perego 2011 Tatamia High Chair, White Latte (Baby Product)
It's unbelievable I'm so disappointed in this high chair and peg perego customer service. My baby is 9 months old and we started using this high chair when he was 4 months old. In 5 months it's recline mechanism broke down. I called peg perego and they told me it's under limited warranty because it hasn't been a year since I purchased. They sent me a chair (not the whole thing, but just the chair part without the fabric and harness), and they charged me $14.99 for shipping. Apparently shipping was not under warranty. The new chair came but it was impossible to take out the right side harness from the old chair. We tried everything. When I called the customer service they told me I should purchase a new harness and pay additional shipping. It's ridiculous. For a high chair this expensive I would expect it to be sturdy and I would expect high end customer service. Especially because the high chair broke down in such a short time.

I just received my Peg-Perego 2011 Tatamia High Chair. The Chair comes preinstalled in the box and only thing you have to do is insert the wheels. After going through the guide book I decided to test the high chair out and went throuh everything that it supposed to do, go up and down. swing side to side and rock back and forth and fold everything up and put it away... Ooops, that didn't work. there are handles on the side of the chair that you raise up to fold the front and back flaps of the bottom of the chair for easy storage but for some odd reason the flaps would not fold. I tried and tried again but to no avail it would not do anything. I noticed one of the handles were more loose than the other so i investigated and found that the wire that was attached to the handle had gotten loose. I tried myself to put the wire back on but it is impossible.
I think the chair is beautiful it did everything I hope it did but for $350 you would hope that it is built for quality but instead right out of the box something went wrong. everything on this chair is plastic and i'm afraid something might break if i'm a little rough with it. I'm hoping I can return and get a full refund from the seller I bought from Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great chair, December 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Peg-Perego 2011 Tatamia High Chair, White Latte (Baby Product)
This is a great chair. My daughter seems very happy and comfortable on it. I just wish I'd had bought it before, because my baby was 7 months when we got it and she wasn't interested in the swing anymore.

It feels very sturdy even when my daughter moves a lot like if she were jumping.
The wheels are very soft on the floor and the material is extremely easy to clean, it really doesn't matter that is white!!! Some crumbs may get into the corners of the seat, but nothing that can't be cleaned in five seconds.

The tray is a little hard to get out, but I guess that's for security reasons and with a little practice it gets easier every day. On the other hand it doesn't get as close to the baby's body as in other chairs, so it leaves a couple inches where food can fall, but I've solved the issue using a bib with front pocket.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't live without it!, August 31, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had my heart set on this high chair from the beginning, I though about it for months and tried to justify the cost. I eventually bought it knowing I would regret it if I didn't and I am so glad I did!

I could not live without it now, it's stay mostly in my kitchen dining area and this is where bub sits/lays while I make her bottles, cook dinner etc. We have timber floors so the wheels being rubber is great and I sometimes push it around the house depending on where I am, laundry, lounge room......

She has been in it since newborn as it lays back enough for her to sleep in it, which she does about twice a week. It is so easy to pop her in it when the phone rings, someone at the door or need to go to the bathroom!

I also bought the accessories kit which keeps her occupied if I am taking too long to get her dinner :)

The swing is great although you do need to push it manually, and the fact that I can lower the whole chair to a height that suits me is fabulous ie. Sitting in a dining chair opposite to feed or on a bar stool, both fine.

My daughter is only 3 months old so we have not used the trays yet so can't comment on that but soon enough we will be and I can't see a problem there.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Piece of Baby Gear, December 7, 2010
Love love love this chair. I was surprised at how often I used it as an infant recliner and swing. So easy to change positions. I love having baby at my level while I'm working in the kitchen. He's one now and has enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner since about 6 months. I still use the infant seat foot rest for him as his feet don't reach the actual chair footrest yet. He sits so comfortably. Tray overlay covers the entire locking tray so there is never any mess on that portion. I just pull the top tray rinse clean and its done. He rarely if ever has gotten food or messes on any other portion of the chair. The seat is easily cleaned by reclining the seat (one hand with ease) back so the chair folds are smoothed out and wipe away. I guess the brown must hide food well because it never looks dirty. Once a week or so I take the center bar off and clean it with soap and water and wipe beneath the chair pad but it is rarely very dirty. One thing I have done which makes clean up way to easy but is likely not recommended by Peg Perego, or anyone for that matter, is pull all the straps through the pad and leave them under it, unused so they are not getting dirty. It has a pretty heavy duty strap system and was complete strap overload for us. They are not removable from the chair which would make it hard to thoroughly clean and my son is pretty mello so we are going without them. The seat cover comes off easily for days when it needs a better wipe down. The tray was a bit of a distance from baby while he was under age one but it seems to be ok now. It never seemed like a huge problem to me but for some that's a huge issue. This chair is so cool looking I kinda push it more towards our living area just to show it off. My friends are all jealous!! I'm using this on our fifth child. Wish I had one for all of them. With the others the highchair was the first thing I put out at the garage sale because they are so clunky, space consuming, and ugly. This takes up far less space and wheels around easily. I just love it and will likely continue using it well into preschool age for my last little guy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't say enough good things about this high chair!, June 17, 2011

I know this is a pricey high chair - maybe even the most expensive one out there right now. But for us, it was totally worth it.

My son is now 7.5 months old and weighs 22lbs 13oz. He's also long for his age - overall a big guy. Most high chairs have a weight limit of 30lbs. That just doesn't seem like enough. This was one of he only chairs we could find with a higher weight limit.

But the weight limit isn't the only reason we bought this. There are many others including:

- Storage: This folds up! Brilliant!
- No Seams!: Unlike most other high chairs out there, this one has no seams! There is nowhere for food to get trapped and bacteria to thrive! It is the easiest thing to wipe this down after my son eats.
- Leather-like fabric: It looks and feels like leather. Its soft to the touch and again - so easy to clean.
- Appearance: The modern and sleek appearance of this high chair is fabulous! I put it at our table and you don't even notice it. We just didn't want a loud print that would distract my son while trying to feed him.
- One-handed tray on/off
- Turns into a Swing!: It doesn't move one its own, but when my son kicks around it does move.
- Adjustable Height: We can put my son at the kitchen counter to watch us or at the kitchen table for eating.

Again, I know this chair is expensive, but if we had the chance to go back and get something costing less, I would buy the Tatamia again!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Best high chair you can get !!!!, September 22, 2010
This review is from: Peg-Perego 2011 Tatamia High Chair, White Latte (Baby Product)
We got this high chair for our newborn on christmas of 2009. At the time he was just under 2 months old and he has used it ever since. I love that we can wheel him around the house in it !!! The chair is super sturdy and holds up well to his tantrums now that he is older. The five point harness is awesome and gives me real peace of mind when I need to leave him alone for a minute. Very easy to keep clean and all you need to clean the seat cover is a wet rag :)The T-bar attachment the comes with it is also a great feature that keeps him from falling forward and I love that it is not attached to a tray. It reclines so that I can leave him in the chair when I give him his bottle. That really comes in handy cause you can have him laying in the chair next to you, leaving your hands free to get chores done. The big wheels are easy on our hardwood floors and I haven't seen any scuff marks. The tray is huge and comes with a removeable liner that is dishwasher safe. The only thing that I did not like about the chair was that the swing/rocker feature was not motorized...lol....for the price, I think Peg Perego could have done something there. The footrest is adjustable, and the chair has a high weight capacity so we will not need to purchase a larger chair as our child grows. Overall, I would buy this chair again in a heart beat. It has been one of the best baby related purchases we ever made because we use it every day. So far there is no visible wear and tear which is great. I think this is the only highchair we will ever need and if we have another kid, it is one less thing that we will need to buy :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A little ovr my budget but worth every penny!, July 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Peg-Perego 2011 Tatamia High Chair, White Latte (Baby Product)
I looked and researched everywhere for a high chair that was worth my money. I did no envisioned having to purchase more than one in the course of my child's growing infant to toddler years,. I am defenitaly glad my husband picked this one. What I love about the product is the versatility of uses. The chair has a two pressure points in the side of the seat that allow you to roll it over all over the house. I use it to entertain my child in other rooms since he can't yet walk. The tray comes off easily and wipes off easily. The seat is made of an easy clean material that resembles supple leather and keeps my baby very comfortable. The chair can also recline and the best part, can be adjusted to a lower position almost to floor level. A position I have used to play with my child on the mat. If you have a small home it folds easily into almost a flat position very convenient to store in a closet or hallway. I will definately buy this product again and will keep it for my second child.
