5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Stroller, May 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For the first few months after my daughter was born I used the Snugrider infant car seat stroller frame. This worked great and I recommend it to everyone (don't waste your money or your trunk space with a clunky travel system) It was so nice to simply move my sleeping baby around in her car seat and not wake her. But once she hit 4 months old I realized that she was just too heavy to be lugging around in a car seat. Plus, she was really starting to dislike her infant seat and would rather be sitting up and looking around. So the search for the perfect stroller began.

I looked at what seemed like hundreds of strollers both in stores and online. Most were cheap, clunky, heavy or just plain ugly. I narrowed it down to a few contenders including:

-City Mini by Baby Jogger. Loved it but it was a little heavy and the seat doesn't have a really upright position (my daughter likes to sit very upright). It was also fairly wide and I was afraid it might be hard to get in and out of narrow store aisles. For me, this would be a great additional stroller, but it just wasn't the everyday use stroller I was looking for.
-Chicco Liteway. Overall great stroller for the price. Good canopy, good handling, pretty good handle height, decent basket. It was actually fairly similar to the Peg Perego Si in style and features only it's like a mini version of it. My baby is VERY tall for her age (29 inches at 5 mos) and the Chicco's seat back was MUCH lower than the Si and the harness slots don't go up too high. The seat was also much narrower. If your baby is on the shorter side then check this stroller out, but for tall parents/tall babies it's a no go.
-Maclarens. I feel like I have to include Maclarens because everyone raves about them but I have never been a fan. While they are lightweight and easy to maneuver I found them to be overrated and overpriced for what you get. They have awful sun canopies, small baskets, are way too short and they tip with bags on handles. Please people, there are other strollers besides Maclarens!
-Keekaroo Karoo- I actually purchased this one first because of the price but hated it and returned it (see review if interested)

I went back and forth on purchasing the Si (mainly because I wasn't sure if the price was justified) but decided to take the plunge and get it. I've had it for about 2 weeks now and can honestly say I love it!

Pros:
-Awesome canopy! Totally adjustable so that no matter where the sun is my daughter is shielded. It opens and closes easily on a spring-no annoying hinges to lock and unlock. I also like that you can unsnap the back for ventilation.
-Very easy to open and close, even one handed. It also stands when closed-a plus when juggling bags and baby
-Great color. I bought the Kiwi color and I love it. Note: the coordinating color (back of canopy and edging on seat) of the stroller is a very dark green and not black as it may appear in picture. I wasn't sure about the combo when I first opened the box but I really like it now and I think it'll hide dirt better than if it were black.
-Big basket. Holds a lot and easy to get bags in and out from sides. Note: I have the 2010 model and I think the basket has been improved from the 2009 model because I haven't had any problem with it dragging on the ground.
-Adjustable handles. No slouching or kicking the wheels. There are also bag hooks which I love.
-Recline is easy to do but does require 2 hands (I can kinda do it one handed, but not easily). It goes almost completely flat. My daughter will actually sleep in this stroller! Also makes a great place to change her diaper
-Seat is very cushiony but the real plus is that it has padded side wings. I didn't find this on many strollers and I really like this. Makes naps and wobbly heads much more safe and comfortable. My daughter seems so comfortable and loves to ride in it. She even has fallen asleep in it a few times and she is very picky about where she naps.
-the 2010 model has a front bar that I wasn't sure I would like or need but my daughter loves it. It's perfect for her to put her feet up on now and when she's bigger I think she'll like to hold onto it. It also is nice to clip toys and rings to to keep her entertained. It is soft and flexable and also removeable.
-Very sturdy and great maneuverability. I can push one handed and it rides very smooth. Also, it doesn't tip over when empty, even with my heavy diaper bag on it. I can't attest to it's long term durability but it seems well made from quality materials. I have not experienced any problems with wheel rattle even when pushing very fast.
-harness is easy to snap and unsnap and has great padded neck guards
-Plenty of room to grow. My daughter is tall for her age and I don't worry about her outgrowing this. The seat back is very high and there are lots of harness slots left to grow into.
-the actual seat is higher than lots of strollers. This means more space for your feet when walking but also my daughter is higher up from ground. It's great for pulling her up next to us at a restaurant and I also don't feel as paranoid about her getting hit with shopping bags

Cons:
-the cupholder is a joke. It's tiny and flimsy and fell off the first time I put the stroller in my trunk. I threw it out and purchased the Sunshine Kids Accessory buggy and it works perfect. I like being able to have somewhere to toss my keys and cell phone as well as keep my drink and her bottle handy. And it folds easily with it still attached
-It doesn't fold as tiny nor is it as lightweight as some umbrella strollers but it is also 100 times better than most umbrella strollers. This wasn't really a con for me but worth noting for those looking for a truly light stroller. It is still much lighter that most of the strollers I looked at (I think it's about 16 lbs)

Bottom line: I love this stroller but most importantly my daughter loves it. So stop researching and buy this stroller! It is worth every penny

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect travel stroller without losing beloved necessities., January 24, 2010

Everyone has needs that need to be met when choosing a stroller. One's must-have features are not necessarily someone else's. Here are mine and these are the reasons I purchased the Peg Perego Si stroller:

1) Handlebar adjustability. My husband is almost a foot taller than me so this feature is a necessity for either of us to participate in pushing our little one.

2) Lightweight. I must be able to load the folded stroller with one hand into the car trunk.

3) One-hand fold. I need to be able to fold the stroller in 5 seconds or less, with one hand and stand upright (see #4).

4) Must stand when folded. We travel quite a bit with different climates and terrains. In and out of subways and buses, wheeling in and out of airport terminals. For such a price, I shouldn't have to bend to pick up or try to look for a spot to lean the stroller against. We've folded this stroller with snow, rain and mud on the ground and our stroller has remained clean because it remains upright when folded.

5) Carriage space. We usually travel expecting to be out the entire day seeing sites and sounds. This means we need to be prepared for climate changes and food needs. We usually pack layered clothing and a light folding ice chest when out and about. Of course, there's the usual travel maps, travel books, my own jacket and souvenirs purchased throughout the day.

6) Canopy coverage. A good stroller canopy must cover the eyes even when the sun is low on the horizon.

7) Rain cover. Most strollers come with fitted rain covers. If not, there are generic rain covers that can be purchased. Rain cover also acts as a wind shield for those very breezy days.

8) One hand push. Depends on the pusher's habits. I drink coffee when I push the stroller so I sometimes push with one hand. Not a dealbreaker though.

9) Must be able to fold with a stroller blanket attached. A lot of strollers cannot fold with the stroller blanket attached (like say JJ Cole blankets). The nature of the fold requires that nothing is in the seat otherwise, it's too thick for the latching mechanism to lock. I find that installing and uninstalling the blanket every time we use it would be a pain. Most of the people I have spoken with who have blankets with strollers which cannot fold with the blanket end up chucking the blanket. They just end up using a blanket that's not attached to the stroller. Then their child ends up pulling or kicking off the blanket.

10) Reclines to flat or almost flat. I like strollers that fold almost flat because I use it in lieu of a changing room, particularly when there is a line into the changing room. I have found this to be an extremely useful feature.

11) Must not tilt back when stroller has no occupant and there's a heavy diaper bag hanging on the handlebars.

Early this month, at the beginning of Jan. 2010, we went on a trip to DC. It just so happened that the Arctic wind decided to blow over the East Coast with record low temperatures and high winds. Lucky us. While my husband attended conferences, I was left with our son doing day trips to the museums and monuments/memorials. Up and down the elevators, escalators, pushing on icy, snowy sidewalks on 29F degree weather accompanied with high winds. Appropriately dressed, my son sat snugly in his stroller inside a stroller blanket, an ice chest for his milk and snacks tucked neatly underneath and a diaper bag hanging on the back for a full day's worth of supplies. Plus, all the museums we visited had security checks (DC and all) so I had to remove our stuff, run them through the security x-ray, fold the stroller quickly with the blanket, run it through x-ray, unfold and re-load gear and my son on it. PIECE OF CAKE!

This is an excellent travel stroller. Heck, this is an excellent stroller - travel or not. What a great addition to our baby gear. I am extremely happy with this purchase. While this is not our only stroller, this is our de facto travel stroller and will be until our son outgrows it. I am looking forward to taking our son and this stroller to more adventurous trips. Awesome job, Peg Perego. Keep it up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprised - I Love It So Far, May 1, 2010
By
Saabgrrl (Charlotte, NC) - See all my reviews
My husband and I have been looking for a stroller since I was pregnant. My baby is now going on 6 months old and we finally decided today to buy the Peg Perego Si. I wanted ONE stroller to do everything, but honestly I don't think that's possible. We seriously considered the Bumbleride Indie and the Quinny Buzz, but realized they were just out of our price range at the end of the day. So then we narrowed it down to the Baby Jogger City Mini and the Peg Perego Vela.

However today the salesman convinced us the Si was the way to go. In the end, it had the features I required: lightweight, something for everyday, something that'll fit in our small trunk, nice-sized basket, comfortable seat for LO (really important!), adjustable handles for my 6'5" hubby (he doesn't kick the wheels) and came standard ; with a cupholder and "baby bar" (or whatever that bar is called). It's easy to fold and open too; and the canopy is HUGE (love it!). We tested it out today going shopping and my baby loved facing forward for the first time! :)

The thing that clinched it for us -- because I had my mind set on a 3-wheel, jogging type of stroller (even tho I don't jog) - is the wheels are hard rubber and it has a suspension system. Aside from shopping, we'll need to take it to the ballpark for my stepson's baseball games. Haven't tested it on gravel yet, but the front wheels lock so that should help (that and the suspension). (My snap and go on the gravel was disastrous!!) If I ever decide to start running again, I'm going to allow myself to get a cheap(er) or second hand jogging stroller, but the reality is I'm not doing that right now.

Also I love that the seat reclines. Perfect for the fussy baby who needs a nap! (We tested that out today as well).

I actually went into this wanting a one-handed stroller. I have never been a fan of the umbrella handles. But after a day of actually using the thing, I have to say, I'm a convert! And my baby is still small enough that I can actually maneuver the thing with one hand if necessary. We went to a bunch of stores today and the thing turns on a dime much like the 3-wheeled kind.

PS. My stroller doesn't squeak at ALL. It's whisper quiet and a VERY VERY smooth ride. Also I stuffed my diaper bag and two small bags from Target and Buy Buy Baby into the basket and it did not drag on the ground. Hopefully it will not stretch out and start doing that. Only time will tell at this point.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money, September 1, 2010
I have been using this stroller for about 5 months now and can't wait to get rid of it.
I was looking for a lightweight stroller that I can take everywhere I go with me and decided to go with this one after reading many reviews.

First the pros:
Lightweight - yes, this stroller is lightweight and folds together ok
nice canopy - I love the canopy, I can adjust it different ways so my baby is shaded by the sun anytime of the day when the sunlight comes in in different angles
harness - this stroller has a nice 5 point harness , great for a wiggly baby
breathable fabric - baby doesn't sweat in it

Cons:
- stability - I understand this is a lightweight stroller, but this one is terrible on the road )flimsy), the front swivel wheels rattle and shake constantly and make it difficult to push and drive smoothly on normal pavement
in order to make the stroller drive properly I have to lock the wheels so they only go straight, which is a pain
- the handles rattle as well and feel as if they will fall apart any minute
- the basket on the bottom is a joke, even a light blanket will drag in it

the wheels are my main complain and are the reason why I want to get a new stroller. It's really difficult to use this way

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Buy the 2010 Model!!!, September 15, 2010
I love love love this stroller (did I mention that I love it?!) I bought this stroller because I recently bought a new Ford Escape and my old travel system stroller just took up too much room in the back. I was looking for a smaller, lightweight type of stroller to keep in my truck, but I didn't want to go with just any old cheapie umbrella stroller. This has all the convenience of an umbrella stroller and the great features of a bigger stroller rolled into one. The fold is unbelievably awesome! I can hold my 7 month old in one hand and fold the stroller with the other. Since its a one-step fold, I can reach down, pull the fold lever, grab the handle on the back and swing it up into my truck in one step (it folds by itself as you are lifting it into your vehicle). Or you can set it back on the ground once its folded since it stands on its own. As other reviewers have mentioned, the shade can be fully extended to go all the way down to your childs legs if you want it to! However, the single greatest feature of this stroller is one that not many people have commented on and it doesn't talk about it in the feature list on Amazon....this stroller WILL NOT TIP. I can hang several bags on the handles and it won't tip over, even after your child is out of the stroller. Who cares if the basket underneath is small since you can hang everything off of the handles? Seriously people - I don't know how they managed to get this stroller so well balanced, but kudos to Peg Perego! This stroller absolutely glides with minimal push power. It steers like a dream and turns on a dime, not to mention the fact that it just looks really cool. Some reviewers have commented that the basket drags. However, the basket has been upgraded for the 2010 models and it does not drag on the ground, even fully loaded. The 2009 models had a basket of super stretchy material, but the 2010's don't. If you decide to write a review for the Peg Perego Si, please make sure you are reviewing the product year that you have! I think many reviewers are posting reviews of the older model under the 2010. Do not hesitate to buy this stroller based off of the negetive reviews. If you are going to get one, make sure its the 2010 with the bumper bar. I have been in stroller heaven since I got it! I have the 2010 in the color Pepper and it's such a pretty color - very spicy!

4.0 out of 5 stars ALMOST Perfect. Not quite., October 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We bought the 2010 Peg Perego Si in "Kiwi" to replace our bulky travel system Chicco Trevi stroller while we're on trips. We've had it a week now, and took it on vacation already. This would be the BEST stroller, if not for just a couple big problems.

Pros:
-Folds very compactly (about 6 inches shorter and wider than the Trevi), has a great standing fold.
-Great color, looks great.
-Very comfy seat, good harness.
-Big basket under the seat (doesn't drag, even when loaded).
-Big sunshade.
-Extendable handles are comfortable to hold.
- Very tall back for a big baby.
-Slim enough to go down aisles in stores, and between tables in restaurants.
-Can hold a heavy diaper bag without tipping, and has hooks on the handles to hold it.

Cons:
-Cup holder falls off all the time, can't actually fit a cup.
-The front legs have to latch into plastic sockets when you unfold the stroller. The manual makes it sound like this should happen automatically when you unfold it, or that you can push the seat down and they'll click in. Mine don't line up with the sockets though, so I have to bend down and put each one in manually. This takes some time.
-Some people have mentioned that their front wheels shake uncontrollably. Mine shake pretty noticeably, causing the whole stroller to tremble a bit when moving at any speed. This is a BIG issue, however, I chose to keep the stroller instead of sending it back because....

Overall, this stroller has a lot of great features and if not for the annoying wheel shaking, and the time it takes to unfold and assemble the legs, it would be the perfect stroller. It has enough of the features I wanted that I decided to keep it, since all of the umbrella strollers I tried out at the store seemed to be made more cheaply. This is not at all a good outdoor stroller, in fact, I've kept our big travel system stroller for going on walks, because the Si shakes horribly when used outdoors. However, it does a fine job indoors, for running errands. This is a lot of money to pay for a stroller that can't be used outdoors, so if that's what you're looking for, I recommend you keep looking.

UPDATE JUNE 2011:

After using this stroller for several months, I've decided to add one star to my earlier review. Although the wheels still shake on walks outside, it happens less often now (only when trying to go at a faster pace) and this has become my preferred stroller for most outings. It's still not capable of off-roading, but the steering is fantastic and it's so slim and lightweight compared to our "outdoor" stroller. The fabric has held up nicely, repelling water and stains very well. Now that our son can eat solids, I do wish there was a a small snack/cupholder attachment on the front bar so that he could serve himself while we're on the go. I still wish it had a good adult cupholder too. Overall, I'd buy it again and recommend it as a great stroller for indoors and walking around the neighborhood.

4.0 out of 5 stars great stroller, but could use some improvements..., June 13, 2010
By
Judy (Little Rock, AR USA) - See all my reviews
After much research, I purchased peg perego si from another website. I know all the good things about the si from other reviewers. Here are some cons, in my opinion, after I received the stroller.

1) parent cup holder really really sucks!. It's too small to hold a parent water bottle. It's probably OK if your only drink from very skinny water bottles.

2)The recline mechanism is not good. It required 2 hands, and sometimes 3 hands when it gets stuck. The mechanism is different from the peg perego piliko P3, which is one hand recline. I don't understand why peg perego did not use the same mechanism on the si.

3)the bumper bar requires tool to remove, I think. It's good and bad. Good that child can't remove it. But bad because it's inconvenient.

4)can't add child tray. I hope peg perego gives the option to add child tray. Maybe next year's design?

5)storage is large but may drag on floor if heavy stuff is put in. Storage basket is not supported so it's only good for clothing, jackets, etc...

Other than that, the stroller is excellent. It steers well, folds compact, stands alone when folded, excellent canopy, nice and thick fabric, stable, has stroller hooks(so diaper bag won't slide down), full seat recline, has adjustable footrest, and is super cute!

I am not sure if I'll keep this stroller. It depends on if I can get over with the above-mentioned issues. Hope peg perego will make those improvements soon!

1.0 out of 5 stars Unsafe hunk of junk, October 2, 2011
By
I did a lot of research on strollers before shelling out $300 for this stroller. This one had all the features I wanted including:
* would accept the infant car seat I had (Graco)
* has a narrow footprint so I wouldn't be forced to shop at wide-aisle big box stores
* could lay (almost) flat for naps/could be used with an infant
* single-handed operation to collapse
* would stand when folded
* lightweight, practically as light as a no-frills umbrella stroller
* relatively stylish (well, compared to some other hideous molded plastic behemoths)
* had an underneath basket

For the first six months, I couldn't have been more pleased with my decision. It is certainly one of the narrowest, lightest, turns-on-a-dime strollers out there. My only beef was that it was impossible to steer it with just one hand -- I didn't think of that when I had evaluated strollers!

Then things started to go wrong. Before the first year was up, the front wheels would randomly stick causing the stroller to abruptly stop. I almost flew over the handlebars a couple of times when going downhill or when doing a faster push. It was before my warranty was up, so Peg Perego covered the repair. Unfortunately, not six months had passed before the problem reappeared again.

Even worse, almost to the day of passing the one year warranty mark, the brakes completely failed. When I say failed, they absolutely don't work. I discovered this when on a hill - thankfully I hadn't turned my back yet when they stopped working. I see that I'm not the only one this has happened to. To me, this is unforgivable.

But if you need more convincing than faulty brakes and wheels, here's other observations after 2 years of use:
* The frame after some use (~a year) becomes a bit warped and flimsy. I often have to argue with it to get it to snap together when unfolding.
* The rear wheels "rubber" has completely disintegrated -- they have peeled off and it's worn down to just the plastic. Mind you, I'm not a heavy user of this stroller, it gets used maybe 1x/week.
* The belt doesn't seem to be generous enough to accommodate puffy coats or larger children, making it challenging to use in the winter time or once your little one is past 30 lbs.
* Also the buckle is a total pain to use -- my little guy has always hated going into the stroller and throws a fit. A real problem when it takes about 30 seconds to slide the 5-pt pieces into the buckle and then snap it all shut. I cannot tell you how many times he's managed to fling all the straps off before I can manage to get it buckled.
* The fabric gets very grungy easily and there is no way to effectively wash it. Spot washing doesn't do much.

As far as I'm concerned, with the broken brakes, dubious front wheels and other headaches, now I just have more trash to contribute to the landfill.

4.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to love the Si, but ..., May 7, 2010
By
Lila G. (Madison, NJ) - See all my reviews
I don't. It's *almost* perfect, and perhaps I'm just picky ... but this is probably a great stroller for indoor use; however, on pavement/sidewalks/road ... an average walk to the store ... it's rickety as heck. It was explained that it needs to be this way for the suspension--and just about everything else rocks (lightweight, easy fold, great recline, nice canopy, decent basket) but I just can't get over rickety. And it's too expensive to keep for a napping stroller.

I walk and need something I can walk with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great combo of portability & comfort, September 16, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the 3rd stroller I have used with my baby (we have a jogging one at home for trips/parks, a light umbrella Inglesina stoller I keep in my car trunk for quick trips, and this is the one the grandparents have when we visit them in California), and it has the best combination of portability with comfort features.

PROS: Easy fold & open (although takes a little practice if you're used to a classic Maclaren type fold). Strong wheels make for a smooth ride even over semi tough terrain (although not in the woods or hiking, like my jogging stoller can actually do, it did go over park grass and little rocks well and is very smooth on pavement). 5-point restraint keeps the little guy inside (I tried the PegPerego Aria in the store, whose restraint system is scary- it just comes out of the seat! this one does NOT). Stylish. LARGE hood to cover baby from the sun in 3 different positions. Reclines almost flat (or 2 other seat back positions). Big basket underneath (held 3 water bottles, sweaters, diapers, changing pad, toys all at once). Water bottle holder. Stands up on its own when folded! Does NOT fall over when heavy diaper bag was placed on the handles & there was no baby in the stroller. Foot rest goes down for dangling feet, or folds and locks in a flat position for a sleeping baby to rest his feet. One step peddle to lock/unlock both back wheels. Large seat for gorwing toddler. Handles have 3 sizes for different heighted stroller pushers, so nobody kicks the wheels.

CONS: Quite a bit bigger than an umbrella stroller when folded, although still smaller than other strollers- took up a lot more space in my car trunk then the Inglesina, but a lot less than the jogging stroller. Under-seat basket is large, but made of some flexible material, so you can not put heavy stuff underneath or the basket scrapes against the ground :(. Cup holder holds bottled drinks or keys or a small toy, but not coffee cups. You have to use 2 hands to recline the seat (clicking both sides while pushing down the seat back).

Overall this is a great compromise stroller for comfort (both for you and baby) and portability. I highly reccomend anyone thinking of getting a new stroller to take their baby to a big store and trying out as many strollers as possible before making your decision.

Of note, my baby started using this when he was already 11 months old, so I never tried it with a car seat. In retrospect, I would have gotten this one stroller instead of the 2 I use at home, but hind sight is 20/20.
