ADDICTIVE BOUNCING FUN - NOW WITH ITS AddOn!!!,
By
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Peggle Nights (CD-ROM)
This is the most successful cross between Patchinko and Pinball! It will have you laughing and shouting at the damn bouncing ball...
At every level there is a number of colored pegs that have to be hit in order to clear the level. They are amongst generic pegs that is OK to hit yet will hinder your access to the colored ones you have to clear - and you have only a limited number of shooting balls. Every time you shoot a ball it gets used - unless you are lucky to fall into an oscillating bucket and gets recycled. There are also special pegs that give you special abilities for a limited time. I am afraid I am not doing justice to the game - if it sounds complicated it is not. You pick it up in a minute and it is GREAT FUN! This is a perfect example of what has come to be known as Casual Gaming. It would be a good idea to download the 60-min trial version from a site, such as REFLEXIVE (you can Google it), and decide for yourself whether this is indeed your cup of tea. Anybody can make a good game that will run only on a super-computer. This is an example of pure programming genius! If you already own Peggle keep in mind that this version only extends the original with some extra levels and a new "superpower". It is not its sequel - so decide accordingly. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

For a simple concept - clear the colored balls off of each screen - this is an amazingly addictive game for casual gamers of all ages. It's simple and dramatic enough to entertain even the youngest players, but has enough strategy and thought needed to achieve higher challenges to please any adult.
If you've played the original Peggle, this version is even better and more addictive because: - The graphics are more dramatic and entertaining, with a tale that weaves them together. - There is much more continued playability with this version. There are screens you work through to clear the colored balls and release a superpower, exceed a best score to achieve an "Ace Award", and clear all the pegs to receive a 100% clear award. When you achieve the ace award or the 100% clear award for ALL of the screens - you receive a trophy. While, that's enough to keep anyone addictively attached to their computer for far too long, there's also a large group of separate challenges (like clearing a screen using only 2 balls), which you'll receive another trophy for if you can complete them all. - There's a new superpower in this one - the Electrobolt. Though it's interesting to try and needed for a few screens, it's not my favorite one. BOTTOM LINE: If you've been addicted to Peggle before - you're going to like Peggle Nights even more! If you haven't tried Peggle before, but in general like puzzle games like Tetris, Zuma or Bejeweled - you are absolutely going to enjoy this one! But, be forewarned: this game is incredibly addictive and some screens may leave you talking to (or yelling at) your computer!

This is a fun game for all ages. It doesn't require a lot of skill, you don't have to kill anything, it just a fun game. My whole family likes to play it. My 21 year old son is always trying to out score me, my hubby is always trying to get more boards completely cleared...my 10 year old niece comes over and she likes it, even got my 70 year old dad hooked on it.

If I had known how much trouble it is to get through phase 12-5, I would not have bought this game. All the other phases are fun, but 12-5 is terrible.

The Peggle series of games have become a huge hit in our household from the Nintendo DS, Kindle Fire and PS3 versions to the newest addition of the PC version with this title. This addicting game has profiles for each user to keep track of individual progress through the adventure. Peggle Nights installed quickly on our shared low-end laptop and plays flawlessly. It's an age and gender neutral game with everyone in our family wanting to play it!

For those not familiar with Peggle... Peggle is game that feels a bit like Plinko (from The Price is Right) with a slight pinball like feel to it. The game is very simple, but it leads to addiction fast. The idea behind Peggle is that you start with 10 balls and must remove all the "red" colored dots / rectangles off the screen. Included on the screen will be blue versions of the dots which serve simply to rack up points (and hinder your progress to hit the red ones). The more red peggles you hit, the higher your multiplier will grow. Every 25,000 pts earned on a single shot will grant you a free ball. Simple game that ends up being crazy fun as you try to beat your own high score!Peggle Nights is technically its own game (and install), but it feels more like an Add-on for for the original Peggle Deluxe. The game plays identical to the original with 10 levels, each containing 5 stages. Each stage has a "Peggle Master" which grants you a special ability triggered by hitting a green peggle. All 10 masters return in the exact same order as in Peggle, however there is now an 11th level which involves a new Peggle Master and of course, a new ability. The "master" levels are now on Stage 12. If you have already played Peggle (or own it) Peggle Nights simply brings 60 new peggle maps for you to venture into, as well as a new set of challenges. The theme for this version of Peggle is that all the masters are now dreaming as it is now the evening. All the Peggle maps creatively represent the various images they are having while dreaming. If you are unfamiliar with the game of Peggle you might want to check out the original ( Peggle ) first. There is a free 60 minute trial on the official Pop Cap website. If you are already obsessed with Peggle and are looking for some more Peggle action, this game certainly will satisfy your cravings; Just keep in mind that this game will play almost identical to the original but with completely new maps. NOTE: Peggle Nights also has a free 60 minute trial version on the official Pop Cap website. If you are unsure about a purchase of Peggle/Peggle Nights then just check out the trial. ** I have provided a link in the comment section which takes you to the official Pop Cap page for Peggle and Peggle Nights NOTE: If you do install the trial then purchase a retail copy, make sure you uninstall your trial copy before installing the full retail version.

The sound effects, along with the brilliantly vibrant colors, play a crucial role in the game. Every time you hit a peg, an effect resonates, with each a pitch higher than the last.
This kind of design keeps you riveted to the screen, even though you're pretty much helpless to control much of anything after you've launched your shot. Yet you sit there in a gleeful stupor listening to the sounds build, watching the explosions of bonus points and hoping for the best. Then there's the big payoff at the end, when the last orange peg is hit, the game screen zooms in, moves into slow motion to emphasize the importance of the moment, and from your speakers explodes a rendition of Beethoven's Ode to Joy alongside bright sparkles, polychromatic explosions, and eye-searing rainbows. Even if you miss that last peg by a small margin, the screen still zooms in and drum roll sound effect is still played, and you'll find yourself moaning aww in disappointment along with the crowd in the game. PopCap knew exactly what they were doing when designing this title, and everything's pulled off remarkably well. You don't have all that much control over how games of Peggle play out, PopCap still managed to create an engaging experience by infusing the addictive qualities of slot and pachinko machines into its title through a masterful implementation of sound effects and color. So while you can never predict exactly where the ball will bounce, you'll want to keep playing just to see if you can get it right the next time. With Peggle Nights, PopCap offers a bunch of new boards and a few new features, though the gameplay is more or less unchanged. Still, Peggle fans should absolutely dive in, and if you've never tried Peggle, you really should. Just make sure you've got some time to spare before you load it up. Quirky characters that spout nonsensical phrases, an excellent board layout and even a colorblind mode. A shiny, polished game. These graphics are really impressive. The use of color is expertly implemented to reinforce the game's addictive qualities. Crisp, clear effects that greatly enhance the game's appeal and staying power. This isn't a title you play for 20 minutes, it's something you'll want to continue coming back to. Just a really fun game! Quite time consuming - a rainy day game for sure.

This type of game has been around for years and I'm surprised I overlooked it to this date. Quite the addicting game for the stategy game folks. Has endless combinations of board diagrams and numerous special options of your choice for each game. Makes for interesting combinations that help you master each game. It's like a wide-spread pin ball game once you shoot the ball it takes off on it's own and one option has the flippers on the sides just like real pinball. Another good job by the PopCap guys!
