Book Description

August 1, 1996 Character Above All, Vol. 6
Timeless history recorded live...Peggy Noonan discusses the life and character of Ronald Reagan.

The bestselling author of What I Saw at the Revolution lends her unmistakable voice to the groundbreaking Character Above All audio series with an illuminating examination of one of America's most popular Presidents.

Recorded live at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, Noonan continues a series of lectures delivered by a team of historians, biographers and journalists assembled by Robert Wilson to explore the Presidential character. Sharing their insight into the Presidents they have written about, these authors and scholars address the larger issue of the impact of the Presidential character on leadership and the creation of trust.

Noonan asserts that Ronald Reagan was successful because he didn't become President to "be big," but to "do big things." He knew what he thought and why. With an almost offhand courage, he turned his philosophy into his policies.

Character Above All is incomparable audio, crackling with the energy and excitement of a great mind at work and the intellectual urgency befitting a topic of lasting national importance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring! A breath of fresh-air in today's moral climate., July 30, 1999

This review is from: Peggy Noonan on Ronald Reagan (Character Above All, Vol. 6) (Audio Cassette)
Peggy Noonan, whose clear, articulate voice could bring life to the dullest text, here paints a picture of Ronald Reagan as vivid and colorful as any portrait ever could. Her insights into the types of people who become president (the type who wants to BE big, and the type who wants to do BIG THINGS) are indispensible to anyone seeking a leadership position, from the home, to the world stage. Here, Reagan is seen not as the "affable dunce" of the pundits and intellectuals, but rather as the determined and mysteriously detached mastermind of the fall of communism, and the restoration of American pride and economy. Using Reagan's example of integrity, Noonan shows us that what counts in a president-or any person-is truly Character Above All.
