Of the three albums Peghead is my favorite.
David Kuehn
I've had the album since the first time I saw them live in 94....now that was a show.

Friendly Dog Salad, it just as good, if not a bit better!

...you ought to own this album. Where most bands slump in their sophomore album, Peghead demonstrates maturity, development, and incredible talent. This and Friendly Dog Salad (their debut) are two albums I have never grown tired of, even after listening for nearly 6 years.

My favorite albums from the "grunge" era were not from Nirvana or Pearl Jam, but from Black Happy, The Screaming Trees, Tad or Dred Serious. The music scene in Seattle/Tacoma at that time was far more than Kurt and Eddie, and Black Happy exemplifies the diversity of the music culture that formed here. Remember Forced Entry and Bitter End? They were also from here and they were metal, not Grunge. Anyway, I am getting off course, Black Happy were great at a time when there were many great bands roaming Seattle/Tacoma. They brought their Reggae/Ska/Rock/Country/Jazz brand of music to the clubs and they never disappointed the live audience. We tried to never miss a show when they were in town, and they were here alot. This album in particular, is my favorite of the 3, although it is a highly polished version of them. Friendly Dog Salad is a little more representative of what they were like live, but I like the production of Peghead better. Also, the songs on Peghead are more "mature" musically and show a band on the rise. Shame they decided to eventually dump the horns and record as Shoveljerk and a major label, but thats a different story for another day, cause this albums is great.

If you have no concept on what Black Happy was about and you enjoy diverse musical genres, then get this album. You will surely wind up with the other 2 and possibly Shoveljerk. If you want an album that follows some formula and sounds the same begining to end, then this is not for you. If you are a Black Happy fan then you already have it and we can just debate which one of their cd's are your favorite. :o)

I've been to nearly all their shows, including their last. I miss them greatly, and ShovelJerk just isn't the same. This album is a NorthWest MUST HAVE!

If you were alive in the early 1990's you were lucy enough to witness and be a part of one of the historic times in music history, when "Grunge" music hit the scene. Seattle, well.. the Pacific Northwest in general, was the place to be..So many great bands were emerging and rockin.

Black Happy was one of those bands. From Northersn Idaho, they played A LOT of shows in the Seattle area. Their shows were always over the top. Their Energy and SOUND was amazing.Their horn section is one to be reckoned with. Some folks would say they were a metal band, others might say grunge, but I really don't think they fit into either category. They have a sound all their own.. Just a great rock band.

Peghead is by far my favorite album of theirs. From start to finish it does nothing but rock. High energy, crunchy guitar, blaring horns and Pauls vocals just make you want to go crazy. Three Day Weekend can really whip up a frenzy!! Holly Would brings the tempo down a little, but is still rocking.

I suggest this as a MUST BUY!!...

I'm from Idaho and have heard these guys countless times in my youth. They put on a helluva show and I think I only had to pay for a couple of them. I am listening to Peghead right know. I have a hand signed original copy. I thought I'd just google these guys for giggles. I couldn't be more happy with the reviews. I feel fortunate to have grown up in Post Falls and to have known these guys. Just had to say how great it is these guys have been accepted by so many others even without being seen live. What a show. I'm pogo-ing right now. I pull this out of archives from time to time...always a treat.

Have seen Black Happy many times, and would definitely see them again! Have had their music since it debuted. Had to go get another CD because the first one was worn out. I would highly recommend anyone purchase this CD, it is well worth every dollar. The music is energetic, jazzy, and just overall great! Friendly Dog Salad, it just as good, if not a bit better!
Just wish Black Happy would get back together for a reunion...we miss you guys!

A unique musical experience, Black Happy is energetic, fun and uses a range of unexpected instruments. I've had to buy this cd again and again, this will be the fifth time, as it mysteriously goes missing and is "rediscovered" later at a friend's house.
This is a Must Have CD for any collection.

This is one of my favorite all-time albums. Years later, it still has a place in my personal "heavy rotation". It makes me rather sad that Black Happy are no longer around.

I still play "Home" everytime I get back to Eastern Washington.
