"Will likely come to be recognized as the standard introduction and overview of Peking opera for the nonspecialist....Highly recommended for any library with holdings in world literature, comparative literature, Chinese literature, or theater."--Choice

This review is from: Peking Opera (Images of Asia) (Hardcover)
It's a simple quick read and informative overview of the history of Northern Chinese opera. A good number of photographs of famous actors and theaters are found in the middle of the book. I look at it as a good intro to a subject that has been written about in much more detail mostly in text books.
