Nice, Tough Box and a bit heavy but a couple of other notable drawbacks:
The tools have to be restrained someway because when you close the box up, you have to tilt it on it's side to use the handle and wheels to roll it around; not a biggie but the tools will end up all jumbled up and a real mess to find the one want the next time you use your tools.
The lid on the top is kind-of nice in that it stays level when it is open but it would have been nice if the top and the front hatches were removable; the front hatch is a pain because, in my opinion, it gets in the way and makes the footprint way too big when you have it all opened up; the pictures show the drawer half-way out so the front hatch doesn't look that big but it means you have to have a big spot to open it up and pull out the drawers. Even if it folded all the way down if the box was on a table.
I read the description and looked it over the best I could before I ordered the box and I like it but I will have to spend about the same as the original price having foam cut to fit my tool set or come up with an economic alternative.
On my budget I will have to figure it out and go with a combo of ways including foam, available tool organizers pop-riveted to the drawers and maybe one drawer with the elastic system Pelican offers.
I had to use open-box style cases for years and wrapped my tools with different packaging material, zip-lock bags and bubble wrap when I had to pack and ship my tools overseas and then unpack, for clean-room work, so this will be way nicer; I hope to save a lot of time, although foam and a lot of items can't go into a clean-room, I would think this box would be allowed.

Most people complain about this box.. however.. Here is the real scoop.. Are Pelican products spendy.. You betcha. However, with Pelican, if you can find a way to destroy it, they will replace it, no questions asked. I've had a number of 1650's replaced, no questions asked. This warranty which is good for the lifetime of the box, not during just the time the first owner has it.. (I've purchased used boxes, and Pelican no questions asked, replaced them when they broke). Is this box heavy.. Yes it is. It's 42 lbs dry, load it up with tools and bam.. my box is tipping the scales at near 120lbs.. The retractable handle isn't the best design, and more than likely knowing Pelican, version 3-4 of this box will have a better design.. Good thing is that if it breaks, you always get the latest version of the box.. which is another plus. To all those people complaining about the tools shifting.. This is a easy one to solve.. Just shake the tool box around before you open the front and top covers.. AND DON'T OVER FILL your trays with tools.. Over all.. this is the toolbox to have for anyone that needs a rugged box.. I do suggest you purchase a desilica pack for the box.. Here in the pacnorthwest the tools will rust inside the sealed chamber of the box when all locked up..

This is currently the best tool box on the market. It does have one minor design flaw, in that the wheels are on the side of the box, instead of where they should be (in my opinion) which is on the back of the box. If you do buy this plan on filling it with foam and outlining your tools. Without foam filler your tools would just rattle around everywhere. even if it is laid out well with foam the small things may still slide around a bit though. I really beat my box up pretty bad, I've broken a couple of the plastic tabs that hold the hinge pins for both handles. Everything is still holding together strong, and I can't imagine anyone putting a bigger beating on this thing than I do.

Like I said. Best on the market. Doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement. If you are an aviation mechanic, or a mechanic who travels a lot, this is the box for you. At least until they come out with an improved model and move the wheels to the back.

great for contractor work ofer in the sand box Afghanistan
its not metal
meets dimensional standards of L3 Vertec
sand and waterproof
it is not overweight if taken on an airplane (Empty just foam inside)
the best shadow material for this tool box is at Sears , go to the fitness department and look for the interlocking mats that are designed to have weights dropped on them. this material will not crush from the tools weight when you are moving the tool box around on its wheels (get the right thickness) sears sold 2 different thicknesses
ship tools separately
craftsman makes 100 lb capacity nylon bags that can be put into card board boxes and then duct taped for shipment in the mail
this prevents tools from tearing out of the box and thieft

The case is quality as you would expect from a Pelican case. Minus one star because the narrow shelves are too narrow for equipment that's not wrench thin. Making the problem worst is the L shape rails the drawers slide on take away even more space, and catches things as the drawer closes. I cut the rails shorter to ease this problem. I would suggest to Pelican less drawers count for medium size drawers. I made some modifications as I usually will do to and im satisfied with the case.
