5.0 out of 5 stars The King of Hard Cases, March 30, 2011

This review is from: Pelican 1700 Case with Foam (Desert Tan) (Electronics)
I bought this for weapon storage, particularly for airline travel. When it comes to protecting your investments, look no further. The foam inserts are high quality and do not rip or tear nearly as easily as some of the cheaper brands I've used in the past. The case itself is very tough, with nearly no flex throughout the system. As for the latches, they secure down tightly with a positive snap. In short, Pelican is cheap insurance for keeping your serious hardware up and running.

5.0 out of 5 stars Typical Pelican Case, Rugged but Heavy, October 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pelican 1700 Case with Foam (Desert Tan) (Electronics)
This is my first hard rifle case and I spent a lot of time researching options and trying to decide which way to go. Lighter is always nice, but the lighter ones had floppy lids that didn't align well when closing making them a hassle. Heavier has it's place too, and the versions like the Pelican that are heavier have solid lids that align and close nicely.

The Pelican 1700 is like all Pelicans nice and solid. I compared it to others several tims before ordering so I had no surprises. However, now that I have been using it to take my rifle to and from the range I find it's weight a burden and uncessary for my usage. I don't ever plan to check it on a plane, and I don't drive rough enough for a lighter case to be a problem. In hindsight I think I would have been better served by a Plano case which was a lot lighter. It was a hassle to close, but I think the hassle to close would be worth it to have a lighter case.

Also, I bought the Desert Tan which I like a lot. Less intimidating than black, and where I live it shows dust less.

I rated this 5 stars because its solid and well made and what I expected. I would just make sure you need this level of protection and are willing to carry a heavier case.
