Top-Tier Case, December 2, 2010
This review is from: Pelican 1750 Tan Long Riffle Case with Foam (Misc.)
In my opinion one of the best hard case makers, Pelican makes durable, reliable cases. These cases run a bit heavy, by their nature, but if it's worth protecting, it's worth putting in a Pelican case. This specific model will hold one or two rifles and accessories, depending on the type of rifle, but can also be used for electronics and photographic equipment transport. I've used smaller versions to protect camera gear from Central America to China, and this size to transport mics, cables, a small mixer, an amplifier, headphones and mic stands across the country on Greyhound buses with no adverse effects. I've also used this case (which floats without too much weight in it) on overnight canoe trips to stow and protect tents, food and other camping items. Maybe that was overkill, but these are the types of cases you see floating behind kayaks in the Artic.
A bit expensive yet worth the price- I wouldn't want to trust my gear to any of the flimsy cases that cost much less, don't seal out water and can be easily crushed or damaged. The double-throw latches are much easier to open than the older version latches, but have more moving parts, so more to break- not that I'd expect them to...
