I am a flashlight junkie. I own many of them, work on electronics for a living, and am generally in the know about all the latest greatest things out there. This flashlight is awesome. Its output is more than any other 'mainstream' single AAA powered light. There are brighter ones out there from smaller companies that specialize in that sort of thing, but the build quality and reliability of this one make it far superior, in my mind. its body feels very well constructed, my emitter was pretty much dead center, the black coating on the outside feels exceptional and has held up well to some moderately abusive use. Also, its battery life seems awesome. It's output tails off as the battery drains, instead of just outright dieing when the voltage reaches a cutoff point. Since i carry this in my pocket everday, a huge deal for me is that the button be designed so that the light doesn't turn itself on. This one has not done that once in the few months i've owned it. Also noteworthy is that the switch is a 'forward clicky' type, meaning that the light comes on as you are pushing it in, allowing you to turn it on momentarily with a half-push. Overall, the perfect light for my pocket.

EDIT 3jan2013

I use this thing every [freaking] day. i deployed to the middle east with it. i painted it tan before i left. the paint wore off, the black coating on the thing is still just about pristine. a little wear only where i have obviously knocked it into something that was made of a harder (than aluminum) metal, and put a divot or scratch in it.

since i have owned it, i have caught it accidentally being on 2 times, and it has killed one battery after being on and not having me catch it. that's in hundreds of days of use.

I had the Streamlight AAA light which is very similar. This light has a better (cooler, whiter) color, a much less stiff and more usable forward clicky, and lasts plenty long, all for a similar price. It has a solid clip, although the Streamlight uses a works-either-direction clip that I slightly prefer. Both work fine with rechargeable Eneloop AAAs. Overall, I much prefer this over the Streamlight.

I give it four stars although It is lacking in options. The company PELICAN advertises that if you break it, we replace it... forever. This is what I like most because I have purchased lights from manufactures that are outside the US and although they do make quality lights they don't cover them very well and you do have a risk there.

This 1910 Pelican flashlight has a great spot beam for distance considering it is powered by an AAA battery. The 39 lumans are not exaggerated as many other companies seem to do, infact this light seems to be much more then it advertise. It may not be as good for reading a map or up close applications as it lacks the option to switch to a lower setting and it does have a tight beam which I don't prefer over a flood style beam for close up work. It may come down to preference, but I think it will do a good job for both up and far tasks. It is a very simple flashlight, nothing fancy although it is rather good looking and it is not cheaply made. The clip is decent but does have a big flaw. The end needs to be flared up so it makes it easier to be clipped on to pants, etc. The size is larger then most AAA lights but don't get fooled buy small is better idea. This size (3.6) light is about what they should be because it is a much better grip to operate then small AAA's lights when using often. Smaller AAA's become a nuisance after a while. If you plan to use sparingly then small is better. The grip is important especially when it is a small size flashlight with a clicky style end cap. If you prefer to remove the clip you will experience the light slipping forward through your palm as you apply pressure to the tail cap with your thumb as you attempt to turn the light on.

This little flashlight had promise, on paper, but it just didn't work out for me.

PROS:
decent output for a 1xAAA
non-rotating pocket clip
forward clicky (momentary-on)

CONS:
too large for a 1xAAA light
the LED emitter was way-off center leaving a poor beam pattern

I've got several 1xAAA flashlights and it's very hard to find a 1xAAA that has an actual forward clicky which allows for both momentary and constant on. The Pelican is a good light and has decent output with a regular/lithium AAA battery, but it is noticeably larger than any of my other 1xAAA lights.

The thing that really turned me off this light was that the LED emitter was way off center...meaning that it was not correctly centered at the bottom of the reflector which caused it to give off a horrible, mishaped beam pattern. Most off-center emitters aren't noticeable in real use, but surprisingly, the emitter was so off center on this Pelican that it basically gave off a half-moon beam pattern.

If you don't mind the light being a little on the large side for a 1xAAA light and get one with a centered LED emitter...it works pretty well.
