We have 2 of these Pelicans and we use them in Dana Point, CA almost every weekend. It is one of the lighter Single sit-on-top kayaks available and can be transported inside a minivan without the need of mounting it on the roof. I actually transported 2 of them inside my Minivan at one time. But when I do have to put it on the roof, I can do it alone, because it is so light. I am 228 lbs and it carries my weight without a problem. It is fast because it is light, so you can accelerate very quickly. We usually stay on this for about 3 to 4 hours on a normal outing. It handles very well against the California waves too. Basically, once you have installed the Skeg, you put this in the water, get on, and paddle around while there is still daylight.

Dont forget to buy a good paddle so that you wont tire so easily as heavy, cheap paddles will wear you out. I use Werner 240 cm long paddles and they are excellent with this Kayak. Since Sit-on-top kayaks sit higher on the water you will need at least the standard 230 cm or preferrably 240 cm paddles. Also don't forget to buy padding for the seat if you intend to paddle for more than an hour. It will give you more traction and comfort so that you can paddle for a longer duration.
