I tried my boat for the first time and was disappointed. The boat is rated for 250lbs and I weigh 225lbs. When I get in water comes up the floor and upfront thru the self bailing holes. The boat had excellant control and turning ability but my feet and rump will always be wet. The kids float like a cork in the boat and love it, but not me. Not for the larger fisherman :(

This is an OK kayak but Pelican makes their hulls too thin. The fixed rudder at the stern (back bottom of the boat) wore a hole from dragging it out on the land after only one short season. The hole can be patched if you know a little about plastic welding but it shouldn't have failed so quickly. I realize that the immediate rebuttal is that is "user abuse", but this is simply pulling the kayak out of the water. It's not like I was dragging the thing across a parking lot. I've got kayaks from other manufacturers that are several years older and take a LOT more abuse (including being occasionally drug across a parking lot) with virtually no wear in this area.

More notable is hull failure at the scupper hole. The hull literally came apart inside the scupper hole causing a massive leak. My guess is this is a two part hull that they fused together, and it's a natural weak point. I was able to weld this back together also but it required fabrication of a special fitting and was a real bear. This is evidently a common problem with Pelican kayaks because I noticed the same failure in to other tandem Pelicans that I own. Manufacturer was little help and just referred me to plastic supplier. Complete hull failure in a 2 yr old kayak seems like a pretty short life.

Overall, if you have the capabilities to repair plastic, and don't mind a constant repair project, then this kayak may work for you. However, I would rather spend my time on the water.

I weigh a healthy 230 and was a little worried about stability and getting wet. I can honestly say I feel as comfortable in this as I do my buddy's 600$+ perception 12 footer. Got it for 250$ from academy so that was just icing on the cake
