Editorial Reviews

Review

"A touching romance that offers healing and redemption to two lonely hearts who fall into a love they don't even realize they're looking for. The first of a series, the book introduces a quirky community and secondary characters with enough personality to make readers want to come back. A light romance with a touch of heat, a pinch of intensity and a dash of mysterious small-town magic." -- Kirkus Reviews

"Donna Kauffman's sexy, fun, and moving Pelican Point is a five star winnerI enjoy Kauffman's deft touch with characters and absolutely love stories set in Maine. But this book surpassed my expectations. I highly recommend Pelican Point with a five star salute and look forward to the next book in the series, Half Moon Harbor, to be released in April 2014. An excerpt is contained at the end of Pelican Point and am really looking forward to hearing more of Brodie's Irish brogue." -- Emsy Van Wyck, Fab Fantasy Fiction

"Pelican Point is the first in a new series...called the Bachelors of Blueberry Cove. Kauffman is known for writing humorous and witty stories, and Pelican Point has that in its favor. Add in a small coastal town in Maine with a historical lighthouse...and an interesting cast of secondary characters, and readers who enjoy descriptive small-town contemporary romances will delight with this one. With equal parts humor and character drama, and a storyline and sweet romance that flows nicely, Pelican Point is a great welcome to Blueberry Cove. 4 Stars" Susannah Balch, RT Book Reviews

"If you like Jill Shalvis' Lucky Harbor series and Susan Mallery's Fool's Gold tales, you are going to love Donna Kauffman's fabulous stories set in Blueberry Cove. Pelican Point is a poignant, sweet, tender and steamy love story with a gorgeous hero you'll adore and a fabulous heroine you cannot help but love. Add a cast of eccentric but charming supporting characters, humour, pathos and charm and you've got a book that's simply too good to miss!" -- Julie B, Bookish Jottings

4.5 Hearts This story is so poignant. It is about loss and overcoming it. It is about love and being willing to find it and it is about home and realizing when you are in it.

I loved this story. The characters clicked immediately. There is something about Logan that makes the reader love him. He is the strong but silent type and yet he knows who he is and is not afraid to show it. Alex is someone who you would want to be friends with. Someone you would want to make be your friend because you know once she is you know you will have a friend for life.

I enjoy all of Kauffman’s work but something about this book is just plain special. I can’t wait for the next one in the series.

Ok, so I chose this book because the name appealed to me and the synopsis was one in which I could relate. But, oh, what a delight this book is to read with many phrases causing me to put the kindle down and think them over. How those phrases were spot on to my life. Philosophy is a simple phrase. Lose yourself in this well written tale of being at the crossroads.....

Used to love Donna's books but the last series didn't grab me and this book isn't either. Just over half way and it is dragging. Too much overly wordy dialogue, rambling musings and re-hashing of the same stuff over and over. Have read many better books recently that were half the price. Feeling ripped off.

Donna Kauffman reels you into quaint Blueberry Cove, Maine, the “perfect little New England town in Maine”. It’s one of those New England towns you dream of living in, where you feel you can walk out your door, smell that salty sea air and see Pelican Point, the only lighthouse in the Cove right there in front of you or chat with your neighbors who are out for a stroll.

Pelican Point needs a bit of fixing up and restoration. After a devastating past, Alex McFarland decides to jump into the restoration job. While lighthouse restoration is her true love, she has no clue she’s diving into a whole new love.

Logan McCrae happens to be the police chief of Blueberry Cove and needs some tending to, along with his lighthouse. Logan needs to see the people of Blueberry Cove are willing to help and there is new life to be found in Blueberry Cove.

This is a wonderful “feel good”, “embrace the coastline of Maine” love story. Hmmm . . . maybe the antique shop owner has something to do with that? Imagine the sand, the rocks, the lighthouse (maybe a fog horn every now and then), sea gulls and that great salty air and enjoy “Pelican Point”!

Can’t wait for Half Moon Harbor.

Donna Kauffman welcomes readers to Blueberry Cove with Pelican Point, the first installment in her wonderful new series set in a small town in Maine.

Logan Mcrae loves his life in Blueberry Cove. Although his sisters had moved on to pastures new and made lives for themselves elsewhere, Logan has never been tempted by the glittering lights of the big cities and has no intention of ever leaving his home town. As the town’s Chief of Police, Logan’s free time is limited. Having to juggle keeping the peace with the demands of his challenging job is no picnic, but Logan wouldn’t have it any other way. With the town’s tricentennial coming up, Logan has got to make room in his already packed schedule to ensure that no incident befalls this most august of celebrations. Pelican Point, the town’s only lighthouse, is in desperate need of restoration and Logan is not exactly pleased when his uncle Gus goes behind his back and hires Alex McFarland to do the job. Logan is determined to send this expert away and save his beloved uncle a fortune. However, when he claps eyes on Alex, Logan cannot help but be drawn to this beautiful woman – who is as far removed from his idea of a lighthouse restorer as it is possible to get!

Taking on a restoration job of such magnitude was not one of Alex McFarland’s best ideas. With her entire work force consisting solely of herself, Alex cannot help but wonder whether she’s bitten off more than she can chew. But with this job being the only thing keeping her from bankruptcy, Alex realizes that she’s got no other option but to do the best job she possibly can – or else risk ending up in the gutter without a single cent to her name.

Alex McFarland didn’t plan on making her entrance in Blueberry Cove by fainting into the arms of Logan McCrae – police chief, owner of Pelican Point lighthouse, and bachelor. She’s here to assess and restore the lighthouse and associated buildings. It’s also her opportunity to discover if she needs to change the direction of her life.
Logan thinks he has figured out his life and is working a job he loves in the place he belongs. He’s about to learn what’s lacking in his life when Alex stirs emotions long dormant.
The external action stays simple and believable in this story. It’s the internal changes forced on both Alex and Logan which supply the turmoil. Interesting characters fill out the community and supply possibilities for future tales.

More About the Author

USA Today bestselling author of the Cupcake Club Romance series, DONNA KAUFFMAN has seen her books reviewed in venues ranging from Kirkus Reviews and Library Journal to Entertainment Weekly and Cosmopolitan. She lives just outside of DC in the lovely Virginia countryside, where she is presently trying to makeover her newly empty nest into something that doesn't have to accommodate piles of sports equipment falling out of her coat closet (okay, out of every closet...and under every bed....), size 13 cleats and sweaty uniforms cluttering her foyer (and stairwell, and laundry room, and...), and a kitchen that should have come with a traffic light. And a pantry monitor. (Anyone with a clever idea on how to repurpose lacrosse sticks into matching reading lamps, she's all ears!) When she's not stripping paint, varnishing an old auction house find, or trying to avoid bodily injury with her latest power tool purchase, she loves to hear from readers! Quotes & Comments for her Bachelors of Blueberry Cove Series:

"Witty dialogue, sexy heroes, Donna Kauffman's a must-read!"  --New York Times bestselling author, Jill Shalvis

"Charming characters, emotion galore, a small town--you're going to love Donna Kauffman!" -- New York Times bestselling author, Lori Foster

"A touching romance that offers healing and redemption to two lonely hearts who fall into a love they don't even realize they're looking for. The first of a series, the book introduces a quirky community and secondary characters with enough personality to make readers want to come back. A light romance with a touch of heat, a pinch of intensity and a dash of mysterious small-town magic." - Kirkus Reviews on PELICAN POINT (Bachelors of Blueberry Cove Book #1)

"Kauffman's second Bachelors of Blueberry Cove contemporary (after Pelican Point) explores themes of home, family, and belonging in a warm, positive story filled with deep-hearted, articulate characters who learn to trust as they open themselves to love. Charming Irish shipbuilder Brodie Monaghan spurns the adulterous advances of Cami Weathersby. She takes her revenge by selling off a portion of his family's shipyard property for the price of the back taxes. Despite his anger at Cami, Brodie is quickly charmed by the buyer, Grace Maddox, who intends to respect the history of the boathouse even as she turns it into a inn. The romantic arc hits a perfect mix of lust, affection, and playful humor. Even more notable are the sincere, insightful, and low-tension friendships between Grace and architect Langston DeVry, and between diner owner Delia O'Reilly and Grace's estranged brother, Ford. Strong character ties between past and future books make the series unusually cohesive and give the tiny Maine town an emotional sense of place despite little attention to the scenic locale." Publisher's Weekly (Bachelors of Blueberry Cove Book #2/HALF MOON HARBOR)

"Kauffman's third visit to endearing Blueberry Cove, Maine (after Half Moon Harbor) solidifies the idea of the whole town as a quirky family. Blueberry Cove's inhabitants love one another even while they're process their own insecurities, and they prepare to fight the caricatured evil rich developers and those who want to sell out the town's charm. Military veteran Ford Maddox thinks he's content, quietly living in an isolated island tree-house at the seabird research station. When his baby sister, Grace, asks him to reach out to Delia O'Reilly, whose family's beloved diner is about to be turned into a yacht club, he realizes that to help Delia, he'll have to face the enduring emotions from their intense tryst 20 years earlier. An emergency rescue of adorable baby puffins gives Ford and Delia the time to develop mutual trust, bridge the gap between platonic comforting and hot sex on a ladder, and realize that they've been yearning to call each other family. Kauffman's stories show that the bravery to reach for a connection is all we need to discover joy; she excels at expressing the struggles and joys of giving in to love." Publisher's Weekly (Bachelors of Blueberry Cove Book #3/SANDPIPER ISLAND)

"Humor, heart, and characters you wish lived next door." -- New York Times bestselling author, Mariah Stewart

"Donna Kauffman's sexy, fun, and moving Pelican Point is a five star winner!" Emsy Van Wyck, Fab Fantasy Fiction

Quotes & Comments for her Cupcake Club series:

STARRED REVIEW! Publishers Weekly PICK OF THE WEEK! (Cupcake Club Book #1: SUGAR RUSH)
"Leilani Trusdale spends 10 years training with charming but tough chef Baxter "Hot Cakes" Dunne, taking over his New York City pastry shop when he leaves to host a cooking show. When she finally escapes the city to open a cupcake shop in her father's tiny hometown of Sugarberry Island, Ga., Baxter turns up, natch, to start his show's traveling season, with a secondary agenda of romancing Leilani. The tension leads Leilani to revive her old bake therapy sessions with her best friend, Charlotte, adding Leilani's quiet new assistant and a lovable town gossip to lend support, share opinions, and add sugar as members of the Cupcake Club. The ladies of Sugarberry will be delightful companions to look forward to in future stories, and readers can bake along with the included cupcake recipes."
~ Publishers Weekly

"Sugar Rush is a playful, sensual, laugh-inducing read. But there's so much more to the story. Kauffman's book chronicles profound character growth and offers layer upon layer of authentic, life-changing conflict. ... it's a good thing Sugar Rush is only the first in a series, because the residents of Sugarberry -- especially the delightfully oddball members of the Cupcake Club -- will lure you back to their island again and again." -
-- Kathy Altman, USA Today/Happily Ever After

"Fans of cupcakes and TV chefs will like this first installment of the Cupcake Club back-to-back romance series that comes with recipes. For those looking for more, not to worry -- this isn't a light, spun-sugar tale. It has more substance, like a rich chocolate ganaches. The suprorting characters are delightful and one hopes they will appear in future books."
-- 4 Stars, Joyce Morgan, RT Book Reviews

"I can't get enough of this new town, characters and the romances that have bloomed and will continue to bloom in this new series."
-- Lush Book Reviews

"It's like blending the Food Network together with CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC..."
-- (4 Hearts!) Megan, Book Brat Reviews

"A fun romantic read for the serious baker, the not-so-serious baker, and the buy-your-cupcakes type of reader (like me)!. Kudos to the first Cupcake Club Romance with recipes included at the end!" ~ Valerie Burleigh, Romancing the Book Reviews

"This is a delicious story about true love and cupcakes that is just as sweet as any treat but won't ruin your New Year's resolutions! The characters are great and there's even a few recipes of delicious cupcakes to try (those might ruin a few resolutions, though.)" ~ Amy Phelps, Parkersburg News and Sentinel

"Kauffman writes crisp, emotionally charged dialogue... Sugar Rush is a sweet, delicious romance fortified with mouth-watering cupcake recipes." ~ Kathleen Gerard, blogger at Reading Between the Lines, Shelf-Awareness.com

"SUGAR RUSH is a quirky, fun tale with Leilani and Baxter learning to really get to know each other while surrounded with several eclectic characters that provide for some humorous interaction. The chemistry between Leilani and Baxter is slow to grow at first, but once they kiss, their attraction for each other begins to smolder out of control. Will they make it work? Find out for yourself in the delightful SUGAR RUSH."
~ Patti Fischer, Romance Reviews Today

"Donna Kauffman has brought a sugary sweet romance in her latest, Sugar Rush. Set on a small, rural Georgia island with lovable quirky townsfolk, this novel delves into the age-old question, "What the heck are men thinking?" It's a fun read with lots of yummy goodness thrown in and a sexy romance to drool over while eating that forbidden cupcake."
~ Lani Roberts, Affaire de Couer magazine

STARRED REVIEW! (Cupcake Club Book #2: SWEET STUFF)
"Romantic fun, lovable leads, and surprising emotional complexity in both the main relationship and the supporting deep friendships make this quick return to the tiny Georgia island of Sugarberry (after Sugar Rush) a deliciously warm and feel-good read... Kauffman describes her characters' internal monologues and thoughtful conversations with an eloquence that makes them feel like the reader's best friends. Contests and cupcake recipes will keep fans eager for Kauffman's next sweet treat."
~ Publishers Weekly

"This is only the second book in the series but I can tell this is going to be a promising one. Kauffman touches on trust, desire, friendships, and a promising new love that just needs a little tlc to grow into something amazing. The emotions behind the characters were a big part of the story that kept me intrigued and wanting to find out more. Every single character made this story more than enjoyable but also delightful. I can't wait until book 3 comes out. I am excited to see who will be next to fall in love in the town of Sugarberry."
-- Lush Book Reviews

Sweet Stuff is the second edition of the Cupcake Club novels and is hilarious from start to finish. Riley has the body of Marilyn Monroe, wild, curly blonde hair, the girl-next-door face and the klutziness of the Three Stooges. She's absolutely adorable and gorgeous author Quinn Brannigan thinks so, too. Throw in a small pony-sized dog with a tendency to drool and drop logs on your toes, and you have a romance made in heaven-as long as you carry lots of Band-aids."
~ Lani Roberts, Affaire de Couer magazine
