First- I picked mine up for under $400 at an outlet store. It has all the features you want for ponds / lake fishing. I suggest you use practice foam golf balls to plug your scupper holes if you are over 200lbs because even though it is rated at 325lbs the water will push up through the scupper holes. Also, the rod holder in front is pretty much a very poor design and you will want to just drill out the rivet on the rod holder lock and use a large zip tie to replace it and add tension around the plastic rod lock. The hatches are not waterproof and you should get some marine silicone and silicone around the hatch edges of it to keep rain / water out of the hull. The seat is ok, but there is better aftermarket seats. The paddle holder is bad and you should consider to add a scotty paddle holder instead. Inside the kayak hull in the rear is a large piece of Styrofoam. It is better to break it up and pull it out so you have more storage room- it serves no purpose other than taking up space in the hull that can be better used for storage space.

If you can find it for $400 or less it is a great buy needing very little work to make it great. If you see them for $600 I wouldn't buy it- I would look around and get one for a lot less. I also would not take the 10 foot model in the open ocean. It is good for lakes / ponds / saltwater coves - inlets- weed beds. Get an Ocean Kayak Trident 13 if you are going open ocean fishing off shore $900 dollar range. They handle open water a lot better and are more stable- made for larger water use. For ponds / coves / small lakes, this is a good kayak to get in quiet and work the coves, drop offs, and inlets. Any rivet on the Pelican kayak near the waterline needs silicone over it as nothing on this kayak has been waterproofed by seals / sealant.

Just purchased this kayak from a sport equipment 'wholesale'/retail store for $350. It paddles easily, tracks well for it's size, and is quite stable. The seat is poor. I weigh 250# and according to the label on the kayak, it is rated for 325#. I am 6'tall and the foot braces adjust easily for my height. I probably won't fish from it but look forward to a lot of fun.

Great kayak and can't wait to use it. Come on summer!!!! I' m a recreational kayaker who wants to fly fish in lakes and rivers, and this kayak with it's dry compartments and rod holder will do the trick. I'm even taking my small dog too. But I wouldn't do heavy rapids with this kayak. Basically I'm jazzed and feel I got a really good deal and I shopped and checked prices before buying this kayak. Plus being a prime customer, we got free shipping, and the kayak was delivered in excellent condition and the truck driver called before delivery and was a great guy. 5 stars all across the board. Thanks Amazon.
