4.0 out of 5 stars EL BENNY WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO DANCE!, April 13, 2010
This review is from: Pelicula Cubana en DVD "El BNNY.Vida de Benny More"Arte cubano y television. Cuban cinema.DRAMA.Musica. Cinemateca de Cuba. DVD/NTSC/Region 1(US and CANADA). Cuban film. Import-Latin America movie.
I have been waiting for an official north american release of this movie on DVD or Blu-ray. Wishful thinking. I searched all the countries where Amazon distributes their movies, and finally found it through a third party seller "cubangraphics". The movie was shown at the Miami International Film Festival in 2006. It is an excellent musical biography of Benny More, one of Cuba's best loved musical icons from the 1950's. Filmed entirely in today's Havana, they managed to recreate the atmosphere of the era. The aspect ratio is 1.85, but within a 4:3 frame (letterboxed) with a fairly sharp image quality. The best is the DTS soundtrack which shook my home theatre and almost sent me out dancing. I am still hopeful I will find an anamorphic release, preferably on blu-ray, somewhere! For now, however, a great buy for $9.99!
