Best compact heater...ever.,
By
This review is from: Pelonis B-6A1, Classic 4 Disc Ceramic Safety Furnace, Brown (Kitchen)
With dozens of so called "ceramic" portable heaters on the market it can be very difficult to sort through all the models. Here are the facts friends; Pelonis (Del Rain) pionerred the original fully ceramic portable heaters back in the mid 80's...these models use 100% ceramic heating (disc design) elements and will approximately double the amount of heat available, watt for watt, than all other so called "ceramic" heaters. Why the confusion? the lower cost units (20-30$) use very small ceramic conductive elements which are then joined to long metal type heating fins; (there is only an upfront cost saving); the pelonis disc furnace will pay for itself in less than one heating season! And, by the way, our own space shuttles employ this same type of heating unit on their missions. Case dismissed.

The Pelonis Disc Furnace is the most efficient and safest small space heater ever built. Dispite their small size, they can easily heat a large room.

The B-6A1 ceramic space heater is one of the best I have used over many years experience...It far exceeds those which cost less, such as the one's offered at Lowe's, Home Depot, K-Mart, Wal-Mart and elsewhere...In my opinion it is better buildt and puts out more heat than others...It is also far quieter and has a varible temp. selector...You will find that this heater cost more, but you only get what you pay for...It will give you years of good service..

Do not buy this heater or any other Pelonis product,

Do not buy this heater or any Pelonis product. I bought this heater two months ago. I turned this heater on and it burned my linoleum floor. I tried calling the number on their web site and it just rings and rings. I sent an email to them and I have not received a response.
I bought the same model twenty years ago and was extremely happy with it. Comparing it with the new model there is no comparison. The new one is built really cheap and flimsy. The are lots of plastic parts with the new one. My old was made in the USA while the new one now made in China.

Love this heater, although I gave it 4 stars because the first one I purchased about 10 years ago seems to be made just a little better. It heats up a room rather quickly. I set this up on a timer to turn on 20 mins before my 5 a.m. alarm which makes it less shocking to get up into the chilly air that I like to sleep in. I ordered this from Uncle Joe's - they were prompt and friendly. Qualities that may have once been a standard, but are a pleasant find these days. :)

Caveat to chemically sensitive,
This review is from: Pelonis B-6A1, Classic 4 Disc Ceramic Safety Furnace, Brown (Kitchen)
While this heater may indeed be durable & rugged (time will tell), I totally agree with reviews which complained of either the panel getting very hot to the touch, as well as the inconvenience of accessing controls on the rear, which is ridiculous.
More inconveniences I'd like to add: (1) Could have used a decent carrying handle. That would have been less nuisance, especially considering how hot the front metal-grill gets - why would I want to risk touching anything except a stay-cool handle? instead of the pitiful little triangular thingie which may or may not be intended as a handle - I have no idea. (2) When the heater is on LOW (i.e. without the fan kicking in), there's a throbbing/vibrating type of hum that gets on my nerves. Maybe it's just me who's sensitive to that. All I know, is that no other space heaters I've had, such as Holmes & Toastmaster, made that sound, rather just the relatively relaxing whir of a fan. (3) Finally, here's a Caveat to chemical sensitive types like myself. Pelonis is no different than the many irresponsible companies who flood the U.S. with Chinese-produced electronics that are SATURATED with chemicals, expecting us guinea pigs to inhale no end of toxins by running their goods (such as heaters, LCDs, and lamps) for several days, weeks, or months until they're finally outgassed. More's the pity that enough miner-canary types who are sensitive like me, don't offer such information in reviews. Because that way, just maybe, those culprits who are responsible would get the message! (4) I really wanted the power cord to be at least a foot longer, because it doesn't reach to my outlet that's high up on the wall, the way my old Holmes space heater did (even if barely).

I had an older one which I liked fine.
This one makes a loud humming sound. When the fan is off it is even louder. It is not usable in any room that is inhabited where you do not have the TV or stereo blaring. Will not take the chance on another Pelonis product. Since this seems to be a problem with some of the new Pelonis furnaces, my advice is not to buy it online. Buy it from a store so that you can try it out and take it back if need be. Otherwise, at best, you will get stuck with the inconvenience of sending it back plus shipping charges (and the thing is not that light).

I bought the Pelonis because the name was recommended to me as the best. The others I had tried were plastic junk; this model is made with a metal housing. It's super quiet, efficient, and has adjustable temp setting, auto or manual, and a fan with no heat option. For the money, I am extremely pleased. The seller packed it very well and it arrived quickly. For a little heater, you can't beat this value. It kicks out the heat! I would recommend for any one to heat a small space, or a room up to 15 x 20 ft. Puts the others to shame.

original owner of a pelonis disc furnace,

My Dad bought an original Peopnis disc furnace in 1982 because it was used on NASA flights to heat the spacecrafts. How cold does it get up there???
We still have it and it works great. I have bought over 25 Pelonis furnaces since then. They originally called them furnaces for a reason. Here are the pros and cons. The ones with forced air are not as good as the true ceramic. The ones with out the ceramic discs are not any better than other cheap heaters. The Original ceramic only are excellent par anything They heat up the rooms in our trailer from 25 degrees to 75 degrees 10x12 rooms) and turn off automatically in about 15 minutes. That is unbelieveable The heat penetrates into the furniture and into you. It is not just ehating the air it heats the contents of the room. We did get a black plastic one and it did melt the case when we had it too close to a metal item but oh well, it still runs 10 years later!!! I recommend the original Pelonis with temp control, the browm metal box type. We have had the newer styles and oscilating and no it is not like the original for sure. Thanks for listening |
