4.0 out of 5 stars Non standard mono audio jack
Turning on the electronics requires pressing and holding the on/off button. Do this while wearing the hearing protectors and you'll be punished with an incredibly loud and annoying BEEP. The on BEEP is different than the off BEEP, there is no way to reduce the volume of these BEEPS. The volume controls are on the same side as the on/off button. Fortunately they are...

2.0 out of 5 stars Peltor Behind the Ear Hearing Protectors
I am a fan of Peltor and am still going to be using a model of Peltors Tac. 7's, but the Behind the Ear model was not for me. I bought these thinking that they would be a little more comfotable and give me the option to wear a hat along with my hearing protection, but it did not work out. The muffs did not seem to seal very well around the ears, they seemed to sqeeze...

Fortunately they are slightly different shapes.

There is an audio in jack, but it isn't a standard 1/8" mini plug or even a 3/32" sub mini plug. You will need a special adapter to plug into a radio or iPod. The input jack is incapable of providing true stereo listening. There are only two not the required three poles for stereo. The optional (not included) "stereo" cable just mixes the channels to both ears.

I found the not included "Stereo Cable for Peltor Electronic Muffs-FL6N (3.5mm plug)" available from other web sellers for twenty five dollars!

Headphones are capable of amplifying normal sounds above ambient levels, in quiet environments you'll be able to hear things that normally go unnoticed. The microphones do work in stereo to allow for directional hearing.

The manual lists the attenuation dB values as H 31, M 29, L 25. The ISO 4869-1 EN 352-4 grade is A, and unit meets 89/336/EEC. These specs puts these headphones near the top of available headphones. Overkill for mowing the yard, more suitable for indoor shooting ranges.

AA batteries are included. Substitute Lithium AA for lighter weight and corrosive leak protection.

I am a fan of Peltor and am still going to be using a model of Peltors Tac. 7's, but the Behind the Ear model was not for me. I bought these thinking that they would be a little more comfotable and give me the option to wear a hat along with my hearing protection, but it did not work out. The muffs did not seem to seal very well around the ears, they seemed to sqeeze much tighter behind the ears that in the front. They also sat up a little to high above the ear to make weating a hat in a normal position feasible. Again I am a fan of Peltor products, these just did not suit my needs. I returned them before use and went with the Tac. 7's and am very satified.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Sound Damping head set I have ever had, November 2, 2011

This review is from: Peltor MT15H7B 370-SV Tactical Pro Neckband Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have used passive head sets with ear plugs. I even owned one of the better sound damping head sets. But nothing I have owned or used matches up to this head set. you can carry on a conversation as if you had no head set on and when you pull the trigger, it is quitter than a toy cap gun.

It is worth the price for serious shooters.

5.0 out of 5 stars quiet comfort, November 2, 2011

Comfortable, and quiet. Some other reviewers complain of a poor fit, but everyone's head is not shaped the same. Mine just happens to fit I guess. These are comfortable all day at my extremely noisy job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fine Range Muffs, August 11, 2011

This review is from: Peltor MT15H7B 370-SV Tactical Pro Neckband Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
I appreciate these muffs when shooting pistols or shotguns. They block reports but allow the shooter to hear instructions or carry on a conversation. I chose neckband style because they accommodate different types of hats for sun protection. The battery life is long compared to my Peltor 7s, and the automatic shutoff feature is appreciated. If you are using a rifle or shotgun you must check for interference. They work fine for me but this fit varies with shooting style and gun. Peltor 6s have a lower profile and would be my choice if I had fit problems.

If I wanted muffs for mowing the lawn I'd look into non amplified ones. However for shooting or situations that you want to hear instructions with a clanging banging background the Tactical Pro muffs serve well. One final advantage to electronic muffs is you can double plug. By using foam plugs in addition to muffs you boost noise reduction by 10 - 15db. The circuitry boosts voices enough to be heard while cutting out the sound of shots.

Shipped fast. So far happy w. product. Fine 2 wear baseball cap. Have 7 3/8 large head. Barely fit. U may need 2 bend heated metal under hot water 2 fit.To compare: Fit MUCH better than Howard Leight Impact muff. Leight too much pressure on head-felt like I was in a vise and my jaw hurt after only 20 minutes. With the Peltors, no vise like feeling or jaw hurting. Just a bit of pressure that said it was a bit too small. Both not good for indoor range w.out use ear foam plugs NR32+muffs.(Highly recommended by experts no matter what muff brand). Used Howard Leight EAR FOAM.With THAT brand ear foam+PELTOR muff,U can stand next to .45's. :) Have excellent hearing:On/off button NOT 2 be 2 loud. FYI, pay attention to difference in sound turned on vs. off. Easy 2 install batteries not like alternate brands where u would have to remove the inner ear cup just install. Durable battery cover. Well designed and handy screw type that u can open w. a coin if u have no screw driver. No problem w.behind head design in regards 2 bumping my collar or falling off. I have long hair so I dunno if it acts as a sound buffer for any rustling sound on the metal bar. Guess if u have short hair and it happens to u, u can always put something on the bar. But I don't thik that u need to. Haven't run down range w. 'em to see if they would fall off, but good 2 have your ears air out anyway during target checking time anyway. Has velcro strap 4 top of head 4 additional support. No hair lost. LOL ;)

FYI, I had even spoken to a very knowledgeable customer service rep from Peltor to ask her opinion about my large head dilemma. (Clue: most hats don't fit me. Even in the men's world!!!) So she gave me 3 choices. Good, better, best. This one had the best reviews/features of the three most likely to fit my large head. And the rest is history. Ironically, I met a lady with the exact same head size as me. She had purchased the Howard Leights. She had no problem w. the head or jaw being squeezed. So it really depends on the shape of your skull, I guess. Both the PELTOR and the Howard Leights SEEM to be the same level of protection when tested turned off and I tried to hear someone speak. Look at stats please. So far, I would buy my PELTOR's again. Please note...that Howard Leights do not do any better inside the indoor range w. out any help from foam plugs either. I asked the opinion of a few owners and that's what they told me. .45's still sound loud if u have no plugs and use a Howard Leight. Both the PELTOR's and the Howard Leights did well in hearing speech. Those who have hearing issues, borrow a friend's first to test how it works best 4 u.

ALSO, these are a thicker muff, so if u shoot pistol, you're fine. If u shoot rifle, u might have to raise your scopes on a higher bracket. I did bench rest shooting for the rifle w. a raised scope. Was fine.

Hope I'm not confusing. Just wanted to compare two top brands 2 help u decide. Summary: people who want quality, ease of use, simple use design, and have large heads buy this PELTOR. 'Nuff said. :D
