I have this book in front of me and just read through it. It doesn't say that everyone laughed at him AT ALL in this book!! What is says is this:
"Never mind!" said the sea lion laughing. "Everything's hard when you first try it." That's not at ALL the same message as the reviewer claims it is -- that everyone is laughing at him!! Also, the story line does not jump around -- it follows Penguin Pete as he travels around. And I don't see that the writing is poor, either.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Penguin Pete's New Friends (Paperback)
This review applies to the board book version only. It is 12 pages long and leaves a lot out!My 2 year old saw this at the library and loving all things to do with the sea we checked it out. Normally anything she loves from the library becomes an Amazon purchase. The story is pretty short for those small attention spans and although Amazon says ages 4-8, I would say this is more 2-4. Towards the end of the story Penguin Pete tries to balance a snowball on his "nose" and fails and "everyone laughs at him" ... not a message I like to see in stories for small children. Up to that point the storyline skips around a little and the writing is poor. We loved other Marcus Pfister books but this one is going back. Even though my little one likes it, Mommy does not. |
