5.0 out of 5 stars Great for walks, bike rides, or hikes in San Mateo County., November 29, 2000

This book is a great resource for those who like to get outdoors on the San Francisco penninsula (particularly San Mateo county). I like to use it as a resource to find places to go when friends visit. It's a catalog of the often ignored foothills (and other areas) along the pennisula. Highly recommended. Check out Windy Hill (gorgeous panoramas) or any other part of the mid-pennisula open space district.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Reference, but Cryptic Directions and Needs better Maps and Pictures, August 3, 2008
By
Liz (San Jose, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Peninsula Trails: Hiking and Biking Trails on the San Francisco Peninsula (Paperback)
I received this book from a friend that knew I liked to hike. It is a great reference and I have learned about a lot of trails I never knew about (hence the 3 stars). However, the directions to the trail-heads are very cryptic and if you don't know the area very well you are out of luck. Also there are not any color pictures which would be helpful to decide whether you want to take a certain trail. My advice is to keep looking for a good hiking trail reference for Northern California.
