Evidently a Publish America title,
By Poetry Lover (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Penitentiary Pacific (Paperback)
No editing and lots of typos which really distract. Story has promise but would be improved with imput from an actual editor.

Too dark and harsh,
By Barbara Rhoades "Jackie of all Trades" (O'Fallon, MO USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Penitentiary Pacific (Paperback)
There are very few books written that I don't enjoy but unfortunately, Pacific Penitentiary was one that I did not enjoy at all.
In the first pages, the author, J. Buchanan, jumped from one set of characters to another and yet a third. This was extremely hard to follow and a reader couldn't be sure which would be the main characters. If this is not set up in the first four or five pages, it makes reading the book very hard. The first set of characters, as it turns out, has the main character of the story but in jumping right away to two other sets of characters had me confused for a bit. Another drawback to this book is the reader needs to be able to think in a futuristic mind set as it is set in the year 2013. Reading Science Fiction such as Star Wars is one thing but this book was dark, bleak and showed life in a very harsh view. It contains violent and unhappy material and, as I said, with three sets of characters, made it very hard to follow the story line. The premise of the book - what can happen when you are in the wrong place at the wrong time - is a good one. In this case it lead to being incarcerated. And, of course, there is always the person who fights to help the wrongly accused. It is the mother of one of the boys. Good verses evil, right verses wrong and innocent verses guilty are the basis for this book but it was too tragic for me. This is not a book I would recommend for a "curl up by the fire" read. There are more books out there that have happier story lines that I would rather spend my time reading.

Marvelous Writing,
By Robbie DeAnda (El Paso, TX) - See all my reviews

I read a lot of books and I have never come across one like this. I have to admit that I was happily blown away. The writing is so vivid and sharp that it reads like a Tarrantino movie. The author is very impressive.

Spectacular Story!,
By Sharris Castle "Sharris" (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Penitentiary Pacific (Paperback)
This novel took my imagination and twisted it in many entertaining directions. The story is great and unique, I wouldn't be surprised if the United Nations really is considering building a hi-tech penitentiary under the ocean floor. A must read for action buffs!

Hardcore! I love it!,
By Chad G. (a student at Pepperdine University) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Penitentiary Pacific (Paperback)
From the very beginning Penitentiary Pacific had me standing up reading it. This book is hard as nails, not soft like flowers. The pages and events pulled me in, and the different characters' lives came together perfectly like the sounds of a Mozart composition. I recommend Penitentiary Pacific to all lovers of good action. Really!

This book is worth every penny. The ending was realistic and the merging-plots writing style is like a movie. Move over Traffic and Mission Impossible!

Pleasurable Read,
By Pam Taylor (Washington, D.C.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Penitentiary Pacific (Paperback)
I enjoyed book more than I thought I would! I usually don't venture into this genre, but a friend of mine suggested that I take a look at it. I wasn't disappointed! It delivered a fresh and new insight to a band of new characters. Descriptive powers were at an all time high because the writer let the characters develop in the readers' mind; in other words letting them utilize their imagination. The plot leads you through the book and you as the reader eagerly follow!

The chapters in this novel give you a front row seat to new settings and experiences. The theme is unique and most of the events keep you on the edge of your seat.
