Product Description

The Penn QST foam ball replaces the Pro Penn T.I.P 1 foam ball and is the perfect teaching and training ball. The same weight and rebound as a standard tennis ball and complies with the USTA's Quickstart guidelines. The QST 36 foam ball's larger size slows the speed of flight, helping players learn proper stroke mechanics.

    5.0 out of 5 stars They're good, November 29, 2009

I use them indoors with my 3.5 year old son. I have a 1.5 year old girl in the house as well, and nobody is tearing them up with their hands like the other reviewer stated, although I don't think anyone has really tried. They are good for indoors since they're so soft and don't break windows and such. The bounce is fast but that's not a problem, just gotta know how to feed the ball to the kid. I've been teaching tennis for more than 10 years and I like them. I bought them at Target for a similar price, but I didn't have to pay for shipping :)

These balls are lightening fast.!! But I bought them for my 2 year old to hit with his racket and he tears the foam off the balls with his hands. Maybe good for an adult but The balls are not durable.

I bought a pack of these on a whim at a local retail store that rhymes with "Zarget", and was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the product. The "36" foam tennis balls are externally as soft as a Nerf ball (making for very safe play) but have some sort of core that causes them to fly straight and act much more like a real tennis ball than a Nerf ball would. You can actually play a real tennis game with this ball, albeit a slow-mo version.

What does this ball do for you? It slows the game down significantly, which is beneficial for an early player who is just getting the grasp of things, who might be otherwise liable to become frustrated by the speed of the official green game balls. You can even put some pretty wicked english on these balls, enabling one to work on spin/fade/drop shots. Also, you don't have to worry about little ones getting clocked - these balls are very soft and low-impact even at high speeds. These balls play well even off the court, making for an easy, worry-free game of catch with very young ones.

An 8-year-old beginner and I were able to muster some short volleys very quickly with these balls, exponentially increasing the enjoyability of our time on the court. I even played a pickup game with another adult (both of us hadn't picked up a racket in over 10 years) and we had a hoot because we were able to actually have a game instead (again, it was admittedly in slow-motion) instead of spending 9/10th's of our time shagging our misses from the backstop. (Sure, we swallowed our pride to be playing with larger-than-regulation sized foam balls, but doggone-it we had FUN!)

I recommend Penn's "36" Foam Tennis Balls for anyone who is just getting started playing tennis, or is finding themselves back on the court after a long hiatus. Have fun!
