The Silverado SV8000 reel has 4 stainless steel ball bearings and 1 stainless steel Infinite Anti Reverse roller bearing for rock solid hooksets as well as a Techno-Balanced rotor for smooth retrieves even at high cranking speeds. With tapers designed for saltwater anglers and Integrated Solid Tip (IST) Construction, the Penn Power Stick rod offers soft, fast tips perfect for pitching and casting live baits or lures, with a stout mid- and butt-section ideal for working larger fish and heavier weights. for the price, it's a good budget reel. Action is alright, what can you say, it works.
I'm just getting into surf fishing after spending 20 years near the shore. I've always been a fresh water guy. I'm used to Diawa reels with good gearing and smooth operation. So in comparison, this reel is less than ideal. But hey, what can one expect for this combo price?

I'll move up to a better reel once I realize my son and I will stick with surf fishing. But I'm thankful for this budget priced combo AND the fact it's made in Philadelphia PA not China@!
