5.0 out of 5 stars Pressureless have improved since I used to use them for practice...
These are much lighter than the bricks we used to use. My father, my 2 kids, and I used 2 cans of pressurized Penn balls with this bag of pressureless balls and I can't really tell the difference in weight.

Are they tough? Yes. The stress test I used is my dog Zaphod. You see, zaphod loves to chew tennis balls and we have problems with regular tennis...

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly heavy feel, but very good for practice
These balls bounce appropriately and seem to be holding their bounce better than normal balls, but feel just a little heavier when we hit them. We haven't weighed them. Good for practice but not quite the same as the real thing.

Are they tough? Yes. The stress test I used is my dog Zaphod. You see, zaphod loves to chew tennis balls and we have problems with regular tennis balls. Within about 3 hours he tears off all the fuzz with his front teeth and then chews the inside rubber into tiny little chunks. You MUST watch him since you can imagine the discomfort that eating rubber chunks could cause a dog after about 24 hours. We gave him one of these pressureless balls 2 months ago. He has yet to tear off any of the fuzz or break the ball. I am THRILLED.

On the court, the fuzz holds up just as well. After one month of use the fuzz is still unfrayed and the balls look darned near new. I think I picked up this same bag at Target for around $8.00 for a dozen, so check there if you have one locally. Either way, this is a great buy for the casual tennis player.

My opinion:
Having played varsity tennis in high-school and HATING the pressureless balls we used in practice because they were so heavy ... I'm very impressed that they have improved so much. And Zaphod likes them too.

These things are amazing. I use them for practice. Started using them in April 2010 and by October 2010 they were still bouncy. They stayed in the closed all winter and I suspect they are still servicable. BTW they are almost the same weight as a regulation ball. Not as fast, and would not use for a game. Great for serving practice and stroke drill. Fantastic bargain. Will re-order if last year's supply have died over the winter.

If you play a lot of tennis, these balls are great for practice. They don't lose their bounce and they hold up pretty well. While not for matches, these balls tend to feel a bit heavier, they are absolutely designed for what they do. Living in the northeast, you don't play much during the wintertime but the balls remain fresh even after the temperature changes and sitting for several months.

I'm disabled and have to use a walker to get around. (Hurt in a car wreck. Life sucks sometimes.)
My walker has a little extension in the rear feet that lets you put tennis balls inside and they roll around freely. Regular tennis balls are expensive and wear out. These are comparatively cheap and because they are solid they last MUCH longer than the pressured tennis balls that come in a can. It's not the use the manufacturer had in mind when they made them, but for me they are perfect.

I had these sent to my grandchildren, who live far away from me. They thought it was the greatest this to get from Grandma.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well done, Gamma, September 5, 2010
This review is from: Penn Pressureless 18 Tennis Ball Mesh Bag (Misc.)
I should start by saying I don't play tennis as I'm visually impaired (without eyes), but I do use the product. It all started when I was walking down the street last October and fell on my face again. This time I cracked one of my prosthetics. When I took it in to my ocular prosthetician he told me that my model is outdated and that we would need to cast fittings for a new set. When we finished with that he said it would be a few weeks to find a solid mold and a color match, so he recommended I find a cheap alternative to eyeballs.
My friends recommended ping pong balls but those don't hold up well when I fall on my face. So, my close friend, Robby, came to my rescue with a new alternative; tennis balls--Gamma pressureless balls (without the fuzz). I was a bit worried about the size, but after slapping on some non-toxic tape and sticking them right in there the room went completely silent and I knew they looked great. Then everyone was slapping me on the back and telling me I looked "Real sharp." They also cushion the blast when I fall down (although to this end I'd recommend changing them out once a week as they lose their bounce after 50-60 falls.)Anyway, I was thrilled.
I heard girls like big eyes and now I've got the biggest. I know it's supposed to be temporary but here's the strange part. Whenever I went to my ocular prosthetician about my permanent prosthetics, he just laughed and told me, "Wait a while longer." So I waited a week or so and came back. This time I thought I could hear other people in the room and some laughter. He said, "Just a little while longer..." So I waited two weeks and went back again. Now this time I swear I could hear about ten others, unmistakably. He told me he wanted to draw eyes on my tennis balls because of some "new research" that was going around. I let him and now I could hear the whole room breaking up. He told me they were laughing with me, because they were so happy for me. He said I should just "Wait a little longer" for my new eyeballs. One of the guys even invited me to hang out by the courts next time he plays. He told me he'd call me over whenever he needed me. It made me real happy.
I couldn't be more excited about this product.

-Thomas
