Penny and Rio were sisters . . . dog sisters of course. Rio was a little bit prissy and didn't want to get dirty, but Penny was quite content to roll around in the dirt and would "rather solve mysteries than lie around with a bow, being clean." Smelling like strawberry shampoo just wasn't her thing. Penny was known around the neighborhood as a "pet detective" and very soon a large yellow dog came looking for her services. Hannah, a Golden Retriever, had lost her "lucky collar." She was a show dog and needed that diamond collar for a show that night. After all, how could any dog win a show without a lucky collar? Hannah was also interested in impressing Hobbes, a Great Dane she had a crush on, but she wasn't going to impress anyone without that collar.

Penny, the pet detective, was going to solve the mystery and the first stop was Hannah's house. They looked here. They looked there. No collar. When Penny started to dig around in the bushes, Hannah claimed her owner wouldn't like it. Penny simply thought, "What was a mystery without a little digging." Indeed! The duo did their sleuthing around the neighborhood and finally ended up at Sarge's, a German Shepherd who was the "toughest dog on the block." All of a sudden they noticed something glittery hanging from a nail on a hoop in his obstacle course. "Finders, keepers," Sarge haughtily chuckled. In order to get to the necklace, someone would have to run the course. Could Penny manage to run the course or was she going to lose her reputation as the best "pet detective" in town?

Any youngster who has met the acquaintance of Penny and Rio will be delighted to see Penny, the "pet detective," back in action.
