This book was one of my mother's favorites growing up. She had shared her copy with each of us kids, but wanted us to have our own to cherish. We had looked through every book store, 2nd hand store and antique store. How delighted I was to find enough books and in very good condition for all of us. It's a quick read and one that can be read over and over. It has a very sweet message and what a difference a child can make.

This book was a great blessing to me as I walked with the characters in their personal struggles. It has a ring of real life experiences in the struggles culminating with real victories. A lot of truth is packed into this small book.

i had this little book on my shelf for some time now. earlier this year i heard that B. J. Hoff was on a roll again and this time her new book was in some ways related to the "penny whistle". Well........ i read it in a quiet cozy setting and boom........ its over but it really has so much more. I am glad to say she now has out a new book called Distant music, alot of the same characters in it too. great! hope to read this one soon

I laughed and cried with this book

This book was ordered as a gift, and appears to be received as advertised, on time, and good shape, new not damaged!

I love this book. This is my third time buying because I give them away; my 12 yr old granddaughter one of the recipients. The whole series is great, but this is kind of a summation of the first book in the series. B. J. Hoff is a fantastic story teller that can have you laughing and crying, sometimes at the same time. Because of this book, my granddaughter wanted a penny whistle, which of course I bought her, and she now can play several songs on it. What a blessing!!!

This book had an ok plot, I guess, but the writing was mediocre at the best. The way that it had to keep belaboring the point about the religious message of the book lessened the impact of that message. The characters did not seem completely realistic for individuals living in a company town. If you are looking for purely a gentle read then this fits the bill, but if you are looking for anything deeper, or a really good bit of historical fiction then look elsewhere.
