This book is an excellent resource for parents who want to give their child a creative and different party.For each party, the authors give interesting handmade card ideas, decorations, games and food. All parties are centered aroud a creative and fun theme. I have used this book for several years creating memorable parties for my daughter. I have done the parties straight from the book or I have modified them to suit my child's tastes and our situation.It is also easy to mix and match different activities, food, etc. and create your own party idea. An added bonus, many of the activities can be adapted to class parties for room moms who need some help!

This book has a number of wonderfully creative ideas for birthday parties for children including not only party themes, but activities, party favor ideas and even party-throwing guidelines to follow! What a relief to know that as busy mothers and fathers, we won't have to "reinvent the wheel" to make our kids' parties a smashing success!

This book is ridiculous. Nothing in here is affordable!

When I read the other reviews, I assumed that everyone here must have a fortune to spend on their children's birthday parties.

I'm on a tight budget and could never afford the lavish parties suggested in this book.

Don't waste your money on this book--check it out from the library. It has a few good game ideas, that's about it.

If you own just one birthday party book, this would be the one to buy. The parties are creative and includes lots of fun activities, decorations, and refreshments. The book is kid friendly too, with attractive illustrations and easy to understand instructions for everything. The Penny Whistle books are the best available.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!! It has soooo many great ideas on parties for kids of all ages. And the suggestions on how to make the party a success are really helpful. It is also very easy to take and idea and customize it to your children. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book!!

What I like about this book is the creative ideas for older children, even teens, not just young children. The party themes are listed along with age guidelines. Parties for older kids include a soccer game party, casino party, or a night "under the stars." The book has lots of fun ideas to get you brainstorming, and recipes to match themes. Good general advice, as well as specific party plans. Check the Penny Whistle Party Planner and the Penny Whistle Any Day is a Holiday books for more theme ideas.

This is an outstanding handbook for putting on a children's birthday party. The author's guiding principles in planning a party are that (1) parents can do the work themselves without having to hire professionals, (2) children ought to be involved in preparing for and hosting their own party, and (3) birthday parties should be expressions of personal style and time spent together rather than lavish, expensive affairs. In their words, "Forget the fireworks; make a birthday banner yourself and your child will remember it forever."

With these priorities in mind, Brokaw and Gilbar present an eminently practical handbook for putting on a homemade, creative party suited to your child's age and interests. Each of their 32 party themes comes with a suggested timeline, a design for a special invitation, a list of materials and instructions for decorations and games in keeping with the theme, and a themed menu with recipes for food that most kids will eat, which is simple to prepare (a very unusual combination in this kind of book). There is also a suggested themed party cake for more ambitious parents. (The cake I made for Christopher's recent party stretched my baking abilities, and the so-called Seven-Minute Frosting took considerably longer to prepare, but it was a big hit with our party guests.)

This book takes the intimidation out of planning an original party by providing easy-to-implement, well thought through plans that can be executed by anyone, to whatever degree their energy (not their creativity) allows. For unimaginative parents like myself who don't want to spend money on a prefab themed party but do want to include their kids in preparing to host their friends for a celebration, this is a wonderful resource.

My birthday's coming up soon, and my mother wanted me to decide everything I wanted to do. This is a great book with awesome themes that come with activites,invitation,and decorating ideas. It's very creative and helpful. I've looked through the book many times!
