5.0 out of 5 stars Good for all ages, August 4, 2000
By
Kay Connelly (Champaign, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Penny Whistle Party Planner (Paperback)
I used this book, and it's follow up (The Penny Whistle Birthday Party Book) to plan my son's 3rd birthday party. Both books are excellant...and you just need one of them. They both start with a good overview of the party segments: arrivals, active games, wind-down/food, leaving. They also give good time lines for organizing and purchasing things (best to start 6 weeks in advance, but can be condensed to two if you put it off).

All of the chapters have a different "theme", and include: how to make a cool invitation, decorations, fun party favors, thematic foods to serve, thematic games to play

What I liked most was that they have a special section on parties for kids 4 and under...how they differ from older children. They also encourage you to take their party plans and adapt them for your own situation.

My case: my son wanted a bug theme. There is not bug-theme party in either book. I took the basic principles for parties for toddlers, adapted games from some of the other parties (there is a dinosaur party, a teddy bear party) and added some things of my own invention.

I read several of their party themes just to get my imagination rolling. I enjoyed them all thoroughly.

In a nutshell: Easy to read, very well organized, the only book you need to plan children's parties!

By A Customer
This review is from: Penny Whistle Party Planner (Paperback)
I find this book to be very helpful for prents planning a party for their children. It's completely foolproof, from deciding on the number of guests appropriate for your childs age to making clever invitations, food, activites and take home gifts...all falling into one of several themes. There is a theme for any child's interest. The instructions are simple and very adptable to many different situations. I have had this book for years and used it many, many times with 4 kids.
