Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Brokaw, a toy store owner, and magazine editor Gilbar continue their collaboration (The Penny Whistle Birthday Book, Fireside, 1992, and others) with a useful travel book for parents. Chapters include advice on family travel planning, packing, children's games, exercise programs, and road food (including recipes). Much of this information will be familiar to parents, though it is helpful to have it collected in a single volume, with reference made to specific types of travel (car, train, boat, airplane) as well as suitable activities for children of different ages and a list of cities with museums appropriate for kids. The text is greatly enhanced by charming illustrations, particularly those of a traveling cat who makes appearances throughout the book. A bibliography and resource section with books for parents and children are also useful. Recommended for public libraries.

4.0 out of 5 stars A cute book, a good help., August 30, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Penny Whistle Traveling-with-Kids Book: Whether by Boat, Train, Car, or Plane...How to Take The Best Trip Ever with Kids (Paperback)
While this guidebook provides no earthshaking revelations to parents, it is certainly a good tool for planning a happy vacation. Its cartoon illustrations make it cute enough to share with your children (my three-year-old was fascinated) while the information is a solid reminder of what you may already know but have certainly forgotten in the flurry of packing. Penny Whistle includes an impressive list of games, mostly targeted to the five to ten year old crowd, and some interesting recipies. The listings of travel resources and guides is excellent.

This review is from: Penny Whistle Traveling-with-Kids Book: Whether by Boat, Train, Car, or Plane...How to Take The Best Trip Ever with Kids (Paperback)
This book was recommended to me by a mother of five kids who regularly take road trips. We have taken two road trips since I purchased it. It has some great suggestions and really makes you more pro-active and interactive with car entertainment. My kids (and husband) LOVED journals and most of the games which really suprised me. The oldest two are only 6 and 4 years so I was sceptical but with some help they now have trip journals that they use repeatedly to remember our great road trip. You know we had fun when on the last day of a 3 week-10 state road trip with a 6 yr, 4yr and 10 month old everyone was asking "when can we do this again". Thank you for turning travel time into fun family time! I would totally recommend this book.
