The Vans Warped Tour: No Room For Rockstars (DVD clip)

Let's get this straight. Your average punk band doesn't sell out venues like the 14,000-capacity Long Beach Arena. Your average punk band doesn't organize benefit shows for charities like the Surfrider Foundation. And your average punk band doesn't last fifteen months these days let alone fifteen years. For fuck's sake - PENNYWISE is not and never will be your average punk ... Read more in Amazon's Pennywise Store

Editorial Reviews

The seminal Epitaph debut, this release features many of the songs that have gone on to become legends in the band's live show. "Rules," "Homeless" and the original version of "Bro Hymn" all appear here. Also contains the previously unreleased "Psycho 89". A classic since its original release in 1991.

5.0 out of 5 stars Words can not describe December 2, 1999
By Brad
Format:Audio CD
One listen to Pennywise and you'll realize they aren't like most 90's punkers. Unlike the Offspring and Blink-182, who's pop sound has grown so much into their style that it isn't even punk anymore, Pennywise has always remained true to their original style. This album, their first full length EP, is arguably their best album (the only contender would be Full Circle). Indeed, you can't get much more punk than these guys. But Pennywise is punk with a message. Their lyrics are unbelievably powerful, even life changing. I've heard many stories of people's lives taking a turn for the better after listening to Pennywise. Just pay attention to what Jim is singing in songs like "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "No Reason Why," "Bro Hymn" and "Rules." These guys have a lot of good things to say. And they have a lot of great music to back it up. Fletcher Dragge is one of the best punk guitarists ever. Byron's drumming skills are breathtaking, and Jason's bass playing is fast and furious (their new bass player, Randy, is definately equal to Jason, if not better). If you like real punk rock and positive lyrics, definately check these guys out. Also be sure to listen to their other albums, all of which are great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pennywisest March 21, 2008
Format:Audio CD
Only 2 reviews???? You gotta be kidding me. When this hit in 91 it was like a landmine. I think the boys blew their load on this first album, but what a load it was! This album never lets up, just furious punk with catchy-as-all-hell choruses. Pennywise take cues from DRI, Excel, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, 7 Seconds and about 100 other bands and produce a great sound, certainly among the cream-of-the-crop of "Epitaph bands". Bro Hymn, Unite & the title track make this album as good as it gets. They've stayed good over the years, yes with changes, but compared to a lot of bands they've stayed pretty true. If you need more convincing, check out the review on AllMusic

5.0 out of 5 stars pennywise rules October 7, 2000
Format:Audio CD
If you like punk than you like Pennywise. This cd, their best one, established the original sound to which they have remained true through all their more recent releases. With Byron setting the beat on drums the band produces the tightest sound out there. Buy this cd. Buy all their cds. You won't regret it. All you need to do to become a believer is listen to Bro Hymn. Other good bands include NoFX, Lagwagon, Operation Ivy, Millencolin and AFI.

5.0 out of 5 stars read the facts February 25, 2003
Format:Audio CD
I didnt read all of the stuff urza 216 wrote but from reading the first paragraph he clearly just started listening to pennywise. And to say that the lyrics are better on the newer albums than this album is completly stupid. The lyrics jason wrote on the first three cds are amazing, they are words to live by, better that that f**k athority stuff they're writing now. If you want good pennywise, buy this cd and unknown road (their best) and about time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a classic! July 2, 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
The years passed and punk-rock music became more angular, less angry, less crunchy but the classics aren't there to disappear, they're there to remember how a certain style of music should be! Pennywise's first album had been copied so many times but never equaled, this fast, furious and energic CD is the best release that had ever been made by epitaph records (Oh you got some other cool stuff also!)!

5.0 out of 5 stars fast and furious September 5, 1999

This album is the best pennywise material you will find. It has some classics such as wouldn't it be nice, pennywise, fun and games and the unmistakable BRO HYM. So i'd definetly recomend this album to anyone interested in this sort of music. P.S> You are a fool if you missed them one the vans warped tour.

This is Pennywise at their raw and agressive stage. This cd contains an extra song but for what its worth its not a great addition ontop of all the other songs on this cd. Also the lyrics for fun and games arent in the booklet. Right after those minor niggles, lets get into the meat of the cd. Theres alot of great tracks on here, The secret, Living for today, Homeless, Bro Hymn and lets not forget the theme song: Pennywise. Basically if your expecting an album that will give you greater purpose and meaning in life, look elsewhere to a BR Cd. However if your looking for something to get you into a punk mood where you just wanna sing and rock out then get this. Its undoubtedly one of pennywises greatest accomplishments.

5.0 out of 5 stars On the altar of hardcore classics May 5, 2000
Format:Audio CD
If you're playing that game where you figure out what 5 CDs you'd have on a desert-island- something by Pennywise has to be on that list- and this just may be the one. Its hard to pick the best Pennywise album- but it isn't hard to note the great PW albums and this is one of them.
The music is agressive and clear, the lyrics are solid. Like many of my favorite bands, there's nuggets of wisdom to think about in the songs. Pennywise shares equal space with my Bad Religion and NOFX CDs.
