5.0 out of 5 stars True, evil, norwegian black metal!!!
Holy macarony, this is a sick album! Incredibly brutal!
The thing that really strikes you is the twisted sick vocals of Hat.
Damn, these vocals are by far the sickest you'll ever hear!

Check out their demo "A sorcery written in blood".
EVEN MORE EVIL!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but once again, Gorgoroth isn't Exceptional
Now, before I get major heat for this, let me explain.
My dislikes:
Vocals- They are the normal black metal growls, but with a little bit of Danni Filth and Vark Vikernes thrown in. Yeah, he sounds like he's hurting himself, but that doesn't necessarily make it great.
Percussion- Nothing really special here at all, not the churning beats like off of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Ambitious and conceptually advanced metal, March 18, 2002
This review is from: Pentagram (Audio CD)
This album is a presentation of a worldview condensed into a half-hour of sound. Its power is its storytelling, in that each song serves as part of an unfolding vision of the mindset of these individuals. Vocals are a screech which cannot be replicated elsewhere, and guitar work favors fast arpeggios with deliberately understated use of melody. From fast simple songs to intricately designed poems in which the final three tones synthesize a melodic foreshadowed earlier in the work, this band dominate black metal with creativity and emotional lucidity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A blistering debut, October 23, 2002

Gorgoroth are perhaps one of the most underrated bands out there. I suppose that this is because this album was released after black metal as a whole had already started its decline into commercialism, so it is easy to overlook this gem amidst all of the more well-documented bands. However, Pentagram, in my opinion, easily stands up to the greats of Gorgoroth's predescessors. I would put it up there with such classics as Darkthrone's "A Blaze in the Northern Sky", and other such great black metal albums. The vocals are perhaps the most blistering, viscious screeches ever to be put on a recording, the drum work is excellent, and while overall the music is quite simple, it is quite powerful, and very well suits the vocals. Anyone wanting to hear some of the most intense, viscious black metal around would be well advised to check out this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Black Masterpiece, January 16, 2008
This review is from: Pentagram (Audio CD)
This is simply put, great! There are not very many people who understand Black Metal and thats ok. Who cares what they think, they are not used to this sort of genre and probably are afraid of it. I love N B M because its true, its not like Rise Against were they shout REBEL! Then they just sit there and want everyone else to do it for them. These fine muscians will do what they sing about. Lets kill People! They do it. Christianity in Norge is too controlling, so they burn churches. These people put their money were their mouth is and that is the most honest kind of music. Hail Norwegian Black Metal!

4.0 out of 5 stars Gorgoroth's awesome 1st attempt, October 31, 2000
By A Customer

This is more primitive and "true" than their later albums. However, I would rate this as one of my favorite BM albums. The album closer, "Maaneskyggens Slave" is the best song on the album, and a preview of what is to come on "Antichrist", slower, more melodic black metal. Standouts on the album include "Begravelsesnatt", "Drommer om Død", and "Katharinas Bortgang".

This is exactly what true norwegian black metal is. Hat's vokills are far and beyond the sickiest screeches of agony since Varg Vikernes! Infernus destroys his guitar with pain!
Check out the centerfold of the band in the booklet, it shows exactly what this band is all about: Satan, spikes and death

Percussion- Nothing really special here at all, not the churning beats like off of "Under the Sign of Hell"
Guitar and Bass- Pretty good, maybe the highlight of the CD. A bit monotnous (but in a good way), more melodic than I expected, but I liked them
Other Problems-
~The singers name is Hat.......Hat
~The leaflet included in the cd shows them in corpsepaint, doing their little pose, very cliched...

Nothing was too bad about the CD, but there are betters.

I like death metal, but I am very pickey, and all it took for me was a few samples of this from Amazon.com for me to want this right away. I would like to know more about the band too. The lead singer here as a killer set of lungs.

4.0 out of 5 stars I don't listen to black metal but..., November 24, 2004
This review is from: Pentagram (Audio CD)
this cd just sounded so dark, brutal, and evil I loved it! I just love there sound! DARK and full of Hatred would describe this albums sound. The production on here isn't bad either like most black metal cd's. Yet the production isn't crystal clear, making it sound like mainstreem crap! You can actually here the guitar riffs and this album kills of riffs. And the vocals are some of the most sickest most tearifying black metal vocals i have ever heard! If you like black metal or don't realy care for black metal pick this up! You wont be dissapointed.
