We purchased our home a few years ago and absolutely loved the pool. It's not a large pool, but mid-sized kidney shaped, and is perfect for our family. This love affair soon became strained with all of the cleaning, checking of chemicals, and other assorted tasks that pool builders never tell you about. Just the vacuuming of the pool took a several hours each week.

After a couple of months, my husband and I decided to look into an automatic pool cleaner. We did extensive research and decided on the KREEPY KRAULY for our pool. With the decision made, it was only a matter of purchasing it and setting it up. Most pool supply stores can order this if they do not have it in stock, so it's readily available.

The KREEPY KRAULY is automatic and does most of the cleaning for you. This will clean in-ground pools made of concrete, fiberglass, vinyl or tile. It works with most shapes but those with nooks will have to do some of those areas by hand. The system comes with the Krauly part, forty feet of hose, installation instructions and the necessary little parts to complete the hook up. The Krauly part consists of a round blue rubber bottom which has the vacuum part in the middle (the round blue part is wrinkly like Venetian blinds). This is held in place by rocker arms. In the middle of the arms is a piece that the hose connects to. The other end of the hose then connects to your skimmer. There is an automatic skimming valve and vacuum plate that allows you to do both at the same time so you don't have to stop skimming to let the KREEPY KRAULY do its job. The original set up takes about 15-30 minutes, less if you read and follow the instructions, but if your husband is like mine, they only resort to instructions when they can't figure it out.

I think that this is one of the best cleaners out there. This cleaner works well from the skimmer and a side port. Will pick up almost any debris - including oak nuts, large leaves, St. Augustine grass clippings (troublesome for the Barracuda diaphragm cleaners). It covers the whole pool very good. You will be amazed at some of the large debris this cleaner can handle.

The only problem it has is that it is too good. It will climb the wall so well that if it is attached by a side-port it will get stuck on the canister or hung up on the hose coming from the wall - but there is a solution, you will need to get a part called the Wall Climb Adjuster (K12065) that snaps right in and solves the problem.

It may also get hung up on the steps - to solve this adjust the suction & hose length. There is also a great aftermarket part called "Twister Hose Rotator For Suction-side Pool Cleaners" that will eliminate this problem by twisting the cleaner out of the steps by turning the hoses 3 times every hour - it cost like $60.00.

The last drawback is if your deck is all cement, it may get rather loud - the clicking noise the cleaner makes has been an issue for some.

All in all a great cleaner. Parts are durable - just make sure you change the foot pad every year.

This cleaner is very durable. There are some parts that will wear out over time like the fin disk (big pad on bottom), and the foot pad mentioned above, but the rest of the parts will last a long time. I have a few installed that are over 10 years old and still working fine.

This thing looks odd but trust me when I say that it is awesome!

My husband and I moved into a house with a pool almost a year ago, and it's definitely been a learning curve for us. Neither of us knew a thing about pools, and learning how to clean it was one of our first big tasks. I spent all last summer manually vacuuming the thing and let me tell you, I was sick to death of it. The whole process was time consuming and wet and annoying. At the same time, though, I kept asking myself "Would it really be worth several hundred dollars to get an auto vac? The short answer: YES.

We've had the Kreepy Krauly for a few weeks now, and it's fantastic. Putting it together wasn't bad at all, because the directions were nice and clear. I think I had it all put together in about 15 minutes.

Hooking it up to the pool is also easy. Turn off your pump, close the main line (skimmer should be the only line open), attach the adapter to the skimmer, hook up the hose, and turn the pump on. Then you just leave it for a few hours and voila, pool = clean. I particularly love that this requires no electricity, no charging of batteries, etc. It runs entirely off the suction of the skimmer (which is why you have to be sure to close the main line. If you don't, you may not have enough suction). I was glad to find that this is very quiet once it's in. The only time I hear any noise is if it's climbing the side in the shallowest part. When that happens, I can hear the weights clicking against the fiberglass pool side. Other than that, it's almost silent, and the noise it does make it certainly not intrusive at all.

Overall, I am very pleased with this.
