I use these as journals since I hate writing on lined sheets. The paper is heavy and smooth without being slick, so it takes a great line from my pen. The binding is sturdy but flexible enough not to have a deep gutter, so while the pages don't lie as flat as a spiral notebook can, they are still very usable and the whole thing is much more durable. I love this.Mine did not have the California Prop 65 warning about which the previous reviewer complained. I really doubt this actually contains lead or whatever (the warning is often used to protect against litigation because it's far cheaper than maintaining lead-safe certification), but as I don't intend to EAT the book, I don't really care. Love this book.

I absolutely love these books. They are by far my favorite journal. I have been keeping handwritten journals for about 20 years and like to doodle as well. The paper contained in these books accept pencil, colored pencil and every type of ink imaginable extremely well. I'm addicted to them. I buy them packs at a time and generally a fill one in a couple months. Lately I have been using various high quality permanent inks like FW ink and Dr. Ph Martin's Bombay ink with a dip pen. Of course Sakura Micron pens work great. I am a pen collecting fiend, and this is the first book I pull out to use the pens. I throw the books into my backpack or pocket (never leave home without one), and no matter how I mistreat them, the durable cover survives all. I love the bold colors available. They are ridiculously cheap for what you get - similar to a Moleskine in function but so much cheaper it's not even funny. I've filled probably over a dozen of these things and have bought them as gifts for friends and family. Many recipients have asked for more! My sister and her 5 kids might very well be keeping Pentalic in business with her orders for Traveler journals :) (Or I am singlehandedly!) I hope these are here to stay because they are my favorite art & journal product dealio. Rarely do I repeat buy something and rarer still do I bother to review it.

What the heck, this product has a warning label on it that states, WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of CA to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. You do not know this till you buy the product. The ones I bought had removed this label, I used them for a long time, the new ones I just bought have the warning.
Pentalic Traveler's Sketch, "black", 4-Inch by 6-Inch, by Pentalic $3.99 I am so disappointed as I loved this journal, I can not believe Pentalic has such poor values, very, very disappointed.
