5.0 out of 5 stars Making a silk purse from a sow's ear, October 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Pentamorous Metamorphosis (Audio CD)
I originally picked up this CD in '94 in a discount bin - it came in a promo-like cardboard sleeve and cost me all of $1.99. I had liked Chapterhouse's "Pearl" single and figured,"what the hell, it's cheap", so I snapped it up. Upon first listen, I was dismayed to find it sounded nothing like Chapterhouse. I turned it off quickly and wrote it off as a loss. That night, as was my habit, I left my CD player on as I slept, forgetting that I had left this disc in one of the 5 slots; at about 3am I woke up to the segue from Beta Phase into Gamma Phase and did not go back to sleep. Finishing the disc off and starting it over again, I realized that I had gotten the bargain of the year- it was an amazing exercise in beauty. The next day, I went out and bought the source album ("Blood Music" by Chapterhouse) and listened to it. It, in a word, sucked. The transformation of a boring album into a five-part symphony (hence the name "Pentamerous Metamorphosis") of achingly gorgeous ambience was truly a work of sonic alchemy. Buy this CD. Buy 76:14 as well. You won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic, August 2, 2001

An outstanding album. Ambient music at it's best. "Epsilon Phase" is one of the most moving pieces of music I have ever heard. This album is ambient at it's best. It needs to be re-released.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite ambient albums..., December 23, 2002

Global Communications just go it right on this one. This is a perfect mix of floating ambient with a bit of a slow deep electronic beat in it.. I would not be surprised to meet the band members; Mark Pritchard and Tom Middleton in a party with Brian Eno.

If you like ambient, then you definitely need to invest in this album.
