I have been taking night time photos with a long shutter time with my Pentax k-x trying out the good ISO range on the camera. You don't want to to touch the camera while the shutter is open, or it will mess up your photo. Well, this remote is very cool to use to take photos of the sky. If you want to take a group photo with you in it, this is the way to go (unless you want to set the timer, and run from the camera to be in a group. I don't know what the range is, but 3-5 meters has worked for me.

It was extremely easy to set up. Much easier than setting up a bluetooth connection to your cell phone. And it just works. I have it sitting in my camera bag for all of my photo needs. It's a really useful device for your Pentax DSLR.

Well like a few others stated, I had used my remote only a few times and when I tried to use it again it wouldn't work. I tried as well to take it apart with electronics tools. After the cover was removed I found the battery to be glued (CR2025) in place so I tried to pry the battery apart very carefully only to have the terminal on one side of the battery break off. This would be a decent remote if the battery could be replaced. I have a Kodak PLAY HD camera that I purchased a remote for and it does have the ability to have the battery replaced. Wish PENTAX was able to do that as well. I purchased the W90 camera because it had the remote available. Now I don't have the remote (its in pieces) and hope I can find one to work with this camera that has replaceable batteries. DISAPPOINTED!!!

I am sorry to report that this remote didn't work when I went to use it. You can't change the battery, so at some point it's headed into the trash can for anyone. There are screws in the back, but they don't allow access to the battery. It costs $30. It is entirely up to the purchaser. If you are someone who would return it right away if it didn't work, then maybe it will fit your needs. But what happens if it works for a month and then dies? You can't change the battery. Just something to keep in mind.

I bought this remote control with the hope of it being of some use - well it was - for about a total of 15 pictures. After that, the battery apparently died, because the remote was no longer syncing up - SO being a rather handy individual I attempted to disassemble the Remote and replace the battery - easy task with 4 screws or so you'd think!

Well, the screws came out without a hitch. The only problem remained was that in addition to the O-ring seal to prevent moisture from getting in, the remote was also glued. Well, despite my effort to gently work this open, one of the corners chipped apart. FINALLY upon opening - I discovered that the battery was also glued into place - at this point I am not going to bother taking the battery out - I am going to send this back to the manufacturer with a letter relaying my disappointment in the fact that I was only able to get about 15 pictures out of the little remote control that you can't even change the battery on.

It was fun while it lasted, but like I said for a total of 20-30 pictures THIS IS NOT WORTH THE $30 spent on it. Better luck next time Pentax!!!

For all those who think their battery is dead - Make sure the camera is in remote mode. The remote will not function at all unless the camera is in remote mode. Also every time you power down your camera you will have to place the camera back in remote mode when you turn it back on if you want to use the remote again. My remote has been working for two years now with out the need for a new battery. The remote works great even the zoom function does too. Best of all, it's water proof too and goes swimming with me.

Happy filming!

The only small wp camera with a remote is the Pentax w90. Great to have when the right shot comes along.

I purchased this remote expecting the three buttons to work with my Pentax K-x, however only the shutter release button works with it, they may work with other Pentax cameras. The instruction manual included has no useful information at all. Conveniently small.

It took me a long time to find a point and shoot camera with a remote control. As far as I can tell Pentex is the only one who has one. It was simple to set up and use and works great with my little Pentex camera. As the instructions explain not all buttons work with all cameras. Mine has two that work, but I really just needed a "trigger" so I'm happy. Remote was fairly inexpensive too.
