What Pentax Lenses would you recommend for use with this camera? With the 24MP sensor, some of the k lenses just won't return the resolution. Jan 14, 2014
After testing various old lenses lenses even back to M42 screwmount with K adapter, and also using K adapters to the new Sony full frame cameras (because Pentax does not have FF and we wanted to see edge sharpness) we have determined that for the most part any lens that was a good lens before is still a good lens even on the new sensors. Something else to consider is that with all the old 35mm lenses you are only using an APSC sized crop from the middle of the full frame light projection from the lens, which is the sharpest, highest quality part of any lens. From a compatibility standpoint any lens ever made that was intended for a Pentax 35mm camera (including the M42 lenses with a K adapter) will work on this camera though you have to meter light differently (research green button metering) with any lens that does not have the "A" aperture setting (Pentax A, FA, and DA lenses meter normally). The in body shake reduction means any old lens will also benefit from modern shake reduction, but if its a manual focus lens you will have to tell the camera when you turn it on what the focal length is so it knows how much shaking to compensate for, or turn shake reduction off. This is fine for primes however for a zoom lens you either have to change it when you change zoom, pick a middle number as a compromise if its a short zoom range, or just turn it off. With an auto focus lens like the FA or DA series it determines that by itself.
Has anyone here experienced problems with the mirror flopping issues that this camera seems to be prone to?? Jun 1, 2014
I have shot two weddings with this camera now. There have been no problems. the camera is fantastic and the images are amazing. Even my DA lenses focus better at low light. The 50-135mm f2.8 is a great wedding lens with the K3 body.
How Big are the RAW Files it creates? I have a K10D with 10 mega pixel sensor that produces 16 MB files. Jul 31, 2014
The K-3 manual says 37 RAW images fit on a 2GB card. That's 54 MB if the card fills, or call it 50 if the 38th just didn't fit.
Please tell me how happy you are after using your K-3 for some time now. Do you wish you had saved some money (potentially for lenses) and chosen the K-50 or K-5iis? Thanks in advance for your time! Mar 12, 2014
Its a better experience in every aspect. I stepped from the K5 and the AF and clarity on all my high end lens now shines. Color depth is fantastic and the details are just better. I am glad I upgraded.
I see 16 language options.
Yes, but only the Wi-Fi aspects. The Flu card will allow remote control of the camera.
What is the difference between the "Old Model" K-3 and the new model K-3. And how can you tell the difference? Nov 8, 2014
There isn't really an "old" or "new" model. There is the standard K-3, which is this one, and there is the Prestige model. There is no functional difference between them. The Prestige model has blacked-out lettering of the Pentax name on the front of the camera.
Can I use my old 35mm film lenses on this camera Apr 26, 2015
Yes! that is one of the advantages of the Pentax. You still have to input the focal lens manually as there is no way that the camera finds out about it by itself but you will be prompted to do it by the camera when you open it. Then you use the green button to get the right exposure. The camera is great for a photographer!
