Howdy guys! This review is not for this particular camera but the series itself. As far as the performance of this model, the WG-1 goes, please read the other reviews. I have been using this series since the W10 model. My father and I have owned the W10, W20, W30 and W60 models. I still own and use the W60 model myself. I have used this camera everywhere from rugged jungle settings where nothing was dry for days, to dry desert conditions where all my other gear got coated in sand, to sub zero days on the tops of snow covered crags. I once used this camera on the second highest active volcano in the world. The conditions were bad, my camelback tube was frozen solid, and my other camera fogged up on the inside and a night of sub zero temperatures had drained its battery. I pulled out my W60 and it powered up, had a full battery (kept it in my pocket all night), was not fogged up, and used it to take some perfect photos. I used this camera snorkeling in the ocean around the galapagos islands and took underwater videos and photos down to 20 feet. I have even used this camera to take underwater photos and videos at a hot spring bordering a ice cold stream. It didn't have a single problem despite the fact I kept it in my pocket while going back and forth between 50 degree water and 107 degree water (values are estimates). One of my favorite features is the ability to take panoramic photos and the camera itself stitches them together. It gives you a ghost image of the edge of the last photo so you can align the next photo in the panorama perfectly. You don't even have to be perfect in the alignment and it will still churn own a really nice panorama. I have recommended this camera series to many friends and family members who love it.Read more ›

I debated a long time before I purchased this camera. So glad I did. It is so easy to use and takes great pictures. The waterproof feature is great, but it does take a while for the water to get out of all the hidden areas. I have taken this to the tropics where it was hot and humid then directly to the freezing snow covered mountains. Works great!

This camera has it's benefits: waterproof, drop proof, freeze proof, and crush proof. It does have drawbacks though. The GPS is one of the drawbacks believe it or not. There's no easy way to turn it on and off. You have to get deep into the menu to turn it on and off, which can be annoying. The GPS also chews through battery life because it's always on. You'll know it's always on because the green led will blink even when you have the camera off. The picture quality also leaves a lot to be desired. There isn't as much contrast as I'd like to see, the camera doesn't like shooting in anything but bright light (the photos are really grainy if used in low-light) and it's only 14 Megapixel if you don't want to shoot in 16x9. This camera does well in wet environments (like kayaking) but due to the lack of quality images, I stick to my Nikon D-90 for most photography. It's not saying much for Pentax when an iPhone 4S shoots better quality photos (and geotags without killing the battery) in nearly every situation. Purchase this camera if you're using it primarily in wet environments. Otherwise, there are better options out there.

this is a wonderful camera but the battery has way too short a life if you are taking it out on [or under] the water. The battery charger works sometimes and sometimes it doesnt.

First time owner after having a few of the Olympus water proof cameras. Have had it for two weeks. Take the camera out with me when out surfing or paddling on the Stand Up board. It will get a lot of water time. Camera is well built, easy to use and takes pretty good pictures. Video is excellent. BUT... battery does not last very long, always some drops of water in the battery compartment when opened up and the lens and display fog up when out in the water. Guess time will tell how long this camera will last. Even for the price you might want to look at other cameras.

I am an avid kayaker, rafter, hiker, etc, and wanted a tough, easy to use, waterproof camera. I read all the reviews, and compared around. I have only had it for about 2 months, but have gone down a couple of rivers, and visited the beach w/ it. It has held up fine! In my opinion it is solid construction. Its compact and takes a great photo. My sister has an older version of the Pentax waterproof line, which we took down the Colorado River and it did well. It does not zoom in really close like an SLR would, but it is a point and click camera.

We took the camera on our first cruise expecting the best. Our first dive was at Cozumel, Mexico. After the dive, I noticed the screen was flogging up and the camera wouldn't work. Later i noticed moisture in the battery and card area. Luckily our pictures weren't ruined.

UPDATE: Later I mailed the camera to the repair facility. In a couple of weeks they sent a replacement camera. It works great and has some neat features. That's it.

Camera is definitely not waterproof! Took it on our houseboat vacation and didn't even have it under water for longer than 5 minutes and both the screen and front lens fogged completly up. Let it dry out for a day and tried to use it again and it wouldn't even turn on. Water was inside of the camera, you could see it inside the screen. Very disappointing! Would not recommend this camera to anyone.
