This review is from: Pentax SMCPFA 100-300mm f/4.7-5.8 SLR Camera Lens (Electronics)
I was using Sigma 70-300mm DG Macro (non-APO) version for over a year and was very disparate to get those eye popping colors and sharpness. After reading good feedback about this old lens I bought one. Well my impression was that it is not robust in build. But this lens proved to be a work horse. It produces tack sharp images, excellent colors and wonderful bokeh. It doesnt hunt for AF but starts AF all over from the beginning. But once the focus is locked, it produces excellent photos of rich colors and sharpness.Pros ---- Very light for a 300mm lens Sharp and contrasty Excellent color reproduction Affordable Cons ---- Not a robust build There is no hood Prone to flare in bright conditions Minimum focus distance is a bit more. In fact I was surprised that this lens was so under rated and almost ignored. Although you can not get new copies, you can grab used ones over ebay for an affordable price. This lens definitely makes you smile. :-)
