If you want to write something down, but want to be able to erase later what you wrote, then the Pentech Yellow Wood Case Pencil is the writing instrument for you.

This pencil is great for a multitude of tasks, including solving math problems, and also for writing tentative entries in your calendar.

This particular package is especially appealing because two of the pencils come already sharpened while the rest of the pencils are not sharpened. Sharpening all the pencils would drive up the cost, while sharpening two of the pencils allows the purchaser to put the product to immediate use, especially where no sharpener is handy. And by sharpening two, you have a back-up ready, in case of tip breakage.

As for sharpeners, I find that a small sharpener with a single blade promotes long Pentech pencil life, while an electric or wall-mounted manual crank sharper, while easier to operate, consumes more Pentech pencil with each sharpening. You can strike a balance by using a wall-mounted sharpener for the initial sharpening, and then use a single blade sharpener for subsequent sharpenings.

Never stick the Pentech pencil in your ear. The sharpened end could puncture your ear drum. The eraser end is less dangerous, but you will find the eraser far less effective if you get earwax on it.

Another warning: I do not suggest writing checks or contracts with this pencil. You might try an ink pen for that task. Amazon offers several. Blue ink is especially nice, as that makes it easy to distinguish the original from photocopies.

Finally, Pentech pencils are great for throwing into the foamy drop ceiling tiles found above many offices and classrooms. Once sharpened and thrown with determination and force, the pencils stick into the foam like the lawn-darts of decades past. In places with high ceilings, the pencils will remains lodged for weeks, months, or even years, as a reminder of your scampy hijinks. And once in awhile, one will simply fall out of the ceiling, seemingly at random, causing surprise and much mirth. It is just one more way that Pentech pencils can help you leave your mark on the world.

They are pencils. They write and erase. That's pretty much it, really.

They can also be sharpened!
