Water filters remove undesirable particles, chemicals, and microorganisms from water by means of a semipermeable barrier, adsorption, or biological processes. They are made of densely packed synthetic or natural fibers that trap suspended particles, materials that block microbes or adsorb unwanted chemicals, or substances that cause a chemical change, such as acid neutralization. For most residential, commercial, and industrial applications, water filters are manufactured in the form of replaceable cartridges that fit inside permanent housings. Filtration systems typically consist of a series of two or more types of filters, each designed to remove different contaminants. The performance of filters is measured by the minimum particle size that is blocked, the percentage of particles or microorganisms that are removed, the downstream concentration of unwanted chemicals, the maximum flow rate, and the amount of water that can be filtered before the filter must be replaced. Water filters are used in a wide range of applications, including drinking water purification, swimming pools, industrial processes, and irrigation, among others.

Pentair manufactures industrial, commercial, and residential water filtration components and systems. The company, founded in 1966 and headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards 9001 and 14001 for quality assurance.

I have been using Pentek P5 filter cartridges since the year 2008. I replace them once in two months. It takes about three minutes to replace the cartridge. All water used in my house first passes through this filter (all-house water filter). The new cartridge is sugar-white, but after two months it has the same color as the the sediment at the bottom of a lake or a river (brown). When I first installed the filter, I noticed that white clothes from the laundry looked whiter and the toilets could be cleaned less often. I also drink tap water, and I am happy that I do not drink the sediment with it.

...for at least 2 years ;) Used in hospitals kitchens, restaurants contains NO BHT or BT like in other plastic's .Virtually same as 1970's "capron resin" plastic's and rediscovered in 2007 by same "BTSF"company ;)))) So as Nylon its 100 times better than Pepsi plastic or similar cheap consumer plastic bottles.Enjoy ;)

It's less expensive than the equivalent Sears filter, and looks exactly the same. The filter lasts about 1 year, which is quite good considering it's 5 micron and filters an entire house on a well pump system.

It is okay and will continue to order and use it until I can find a better cartridge. I've installed and used it with no issues but wish it top and bottom caps to fill tighter.

I chose it because of its 5 micron and flow rating.
It fits the filter housing and filters my domestic water.
What more could I ask for?

Difficult to find filters that fit our filter housing. Most are too tall, but these fit well. Otherwise does the job well.
