Water filters remove undesirable particles, chemicals, and microorganisms from water by means of a semipermeable barrier, adsorption, or biological processes. They are made of densely packed synthetic or natural fibers that trap suspended particles, materials that block microbes or adsorb unwanted chemicals, or substances that cause a chemical change, such as acid neutralization. For most residential, commercial, and industrial applications, water filters are manufactured in the form of replaceable cartridges that fit inside permanent housings. Filtration systems typically consist of a series of two or more types of filters, each designed to remove different contaminants. The performance of filters is measured by the minimum particle size that is blocked, the percentage of particles or microorganisms that are removed, the downstream concentration of unwanted chemicals, the maximum flow rate, and the amount of water that can be filtered before the filter must be replaced. Water filters are used in a wide range of applications, including drinking water purification, swimming pools, industrial processes, and irrigation, among others.

Pentair manufactures industrial, commercial, and residential water filtration components and systems. The company, founded in 1966 and headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards 9001 and 14001 for quality assurance.

I use to sell these as a system. You will be best served if you use any of the polyester cartridges in combination with an activated charcoal filter. I have a well and after I moved into this new home without the filters it caused problems with the refer icemaker, washing machine and dishwasher due to the sand and silt pushed thru with the pump. These are expensive to repair and replace. We also had to clean out the screen in 7 seven faucets throughout the house.
30 microns cleans out the heavy silt and sand and the charcoal filter improves the taste of the hard water. So yes you need two inline filters but, you will save the wear and tear on all your household appliances and save LOTS O MONEY on bottled water for coffee and drinking. Activated charcoal removes odor and bacteria from your water so it significantly improves the taste.
PS use the 41/2" filters they also last longer rather than the 2 5/8" filters.
You wont be sorry.

These work great to filter the crud coming in from our well. It is used in the 1st filter, which then passes through another filter that we have fitted with the Pentek EPM 10 carbon filter. The water has never been more clear or tasted better! The R30 filter (for us) needs to be changed about every 2-3 months depending on usage. Although it says it can be washed out, it often smells fouls when we change it, so is seems better just to put a new filter in.

We have well water and used American Plumber 30 filters first. They lasted about 3.5 months before needing changes. Pricing on Pentek was too good not to try. These last 2.5 months for us before needing changing. Considering the large price difference I don't mind changing it a bit more often. I didn't notice any water quality/taste difference from the between these an the A.P. 30.

We use them in our line between the pump of the well and the house and they just work.- they filter, turn dark and I replace them every 6 months or less.
