5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best pencil.
I have just retired one of these pencils that I think I have had since the 1970's. I am an engineer, and I put a lot of miles on that pencil. The only problem with it is that I lost the cap that holds the lead in and it has afew scratches and dents. I bought two replacements, and I bought one for each of my 3 granddaughters in college. The way it closes so that there...

2.0 out of 5 stars Recent copies defective
My wife bought some for her company and when she got them the silver plunger in the cap would easily push loose and push deep into the cap and rattle around like a $2 pencil. She bought one from Amazon and it was the same way.

When not defective when the cap is not on the back, the plunger retracts so there is a small 2mm silver button sticking out of the...

The only problem with it is that I lost the cap that holds the lead in and it has afew scratches and dents. I bought two replacements, and I bought one for each of my 3 granddaughters in college. The way it closes so that there is no sharp point means it can go in a jeans pocket or a purse without any problem.

Best mechanical pencil I've ever purchased. Excellent jewel-like metallic blue finish. Everything seems polished and no rough or sharp edges. The pencil is smaller (or more compact)than it appears in the picture on the web site. When left uncapped, the pencil is very small (4-1/4 inches). When used with the cap posted on the pencil, it is "normal size" at 5-1/4 inches. I wish Pentel made a companion ballpen or roller ball to go with this pencil. One advantage of the detachable cap is that when the pencil is posted with the cap, there is no danger of poking a hole in your shirt pocket.

I work in engineering and live by these things. There was another model I used and that I loved - but they're not made anymore. I searched long and hard to find a replacement that works reliably and without jamming, and this model is it. My lastest order was for three of them - so I can have spares if I lose my primary one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cadillac/Lamborghini of mechanical pencils, September 16, 2008
This review is from: Pentel Sharp Kerry Automatic Pencil, 0.5 mm, Blue Barrel, 1 Pen (P1035C) (Office Product)
If Cadillac and Lamborghini made writing implements, it would be this pencil. The Sharp Kerry is simply the best mechanical pencil I have ever used. As a teacher it is important that I always have something with which to write. Because of the cap design I can carry this in my pocket without fear of jabbing my leg. Indestructible, it has been to Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Alaska, Europe and an expedition on Mt. Rainier. Truly the best.

I have the Sharp Kerry 0.5mm blue mechanical pencil. It's my favorite mechanical pencil. I like the two piece cap/pencil design (some might consider this a negative) because it does not poke holes in my shirt pocket -- and I refuse to wear a pocket protector. The Sharp Kerry balances nicely in hand if you put the cap on the top of the pencil. The construction of the pencil is first class and I'll lose it years before it wears out. I will admit that if Sharp made an equally well constructed writing (not drafting) mechanical pencil with a retractable point, I'd have it as well. The eraser is smallish but I use a Pentel Clic Eraser ZE22 so it's not an issue with me.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good but not great value, October 21, 2011
This review is from: Pentel Sharp Kerry Automatic Pencil, 0.5 mm, Blue Barrel, 1 Pen (P1035C) (Office Product)
Length:: 1:32 Mins

Maybe this was a case of too much hype and I don't think so. Perhaps its a case of "They just don't build 'em like they used to? All the verbiage aside, just considering the product delivered for the price I paid, the value just isn't there. For $15 I was expecting something with a more substantial feel and even better build quality. It's somewhere between OK and good. Closer to good and definately not great. If I could have rated it 3.5 stars I would have. Maybe 3.75...

I've tried to provide a fair showing in the attached video to help you with your buying decision. For me, I like it and use it but don't see buying any more, either for myself or as gifts for others.

I am in love with this pencil. It feels like a real writing tool, compared to the disposable ones out there. Very solid action, good sleeve -- the lead doesn't break off all the time, and feeds smoothly.

I have used mechanical pencils every day for years (for work). Over the years I have had so many brands, styles, types, etc. You name it. This is by far, the best one.

It feels really good in your hand and the mechanics of the pencil never fails. It is so easy to use and for some reason the lead never breaks like other pencils have. I highly recommend this pencil to anyone, especially someone who, like me, requires heavy use.

2.0 out of 5 stars Recent copies defective, February 10, 2011
This review is from: Pentel Sharp Kerry Automatic Pencil, 0.5 mm, Blue Barrel, 1 Pen (P1035C) (Office Product)
My wife bought some for her company and when she got them the silver plunger in the cap would easily push loose and push deep into the cap and rattle around like a $2 pencil. She bought one from Amazon and it was the same way.

When not defective when the cap is not on the back, the plunger retracts so there is a small 2mm silver button sticking out of the end which moves out when the cap is placed on the back so you can access the eraser and push more led out. Its a nice design.. But it appears recently made units the retaining mechanics for the plunger do not stay tight in place and the button gets pushed down into the cap. This happens just from using the lead advance or taking the cap off and on tha back.

A long-time user confirmed that previous versions were not like this.. this is not about a little play in the eraser / pencil plunger on the cap it. There appears to be a new sloppyness in Pentel's QA and that is not acceptable in pencil at a quality price. I would avoid these until Pentel fixes the problem
